Former Employee – worked at Cleveland Clinic
Pros – Great name, works hard to improve their image and facilities, has many long-term people who stay there for entire careers, lots of training and development, great job opportunities once you are inside to change areas.
Cons – It's Cleveland (what else can I say), although there are plenty of really nice areas in Ohio to live and do a little commute. As a very large health system, it has a heavy political element. And you can drink the Kool-aid and be a "team" player, or be part of the majority of people who are happy to have a job in the area. Lots of cross-town rivalry between Case Western and University Hospitals, but it also provides another opportunity to change jobs if you don't like one (join the other).
Advice to Senior Management – Keep pushing the curve in transforming the healthcare paradigm, and striking a balance with valuing people and diversity of thinking and lifestyles. Think harder about all doctors wearing their labcoats everywhere. It reinforces an old and outdated (and standoffish) visual of doctors being the expert and running the show.

Current Employee – been working at Cleveland Clinic
Pros – Benefits - health insurance
There are some good hard working people who want to see things change.
Cons – Organization lacks sophistication in decision making, has dismal employee development programs and is not open to new ideas. There are too many chiefs bossing around and throwing weight around for no reason. Titles don't go with salaries and titles don't mean much. Like any other healthcare organization there is growing discontent among physicians and management, each think the other is lazy/incompetent or building turf.
Not a place for someone who is driven and has a natural disposition to learn/grow.
Because employees work in same position for decades, people are resistant to change, see younger talent as threat and don't care about improvement.
All the senior management cares about is growing their turf and protecting it, even if it reflects on poor performance.
If you are lazy or incompetent or aspire to be a sloth or if you were a high school cheer leader, you will still have a job. I can't imagine working with some of the people here, physicians might be brilliant but the staff clearly lacks any sort of sophistication.
Still a not-for-profit at the end of the day. Explain what is NPV or IRR or DCF or simple profitability concepts.
Advice to Senior Management – Rotate senior leadership
Promote ideas (just don't say it)
Teach physicians humility and how to respect employees
Curb egos
Cut down number of chiefs and increase worker-bees to get job done
Hire people from out of state (out of Cleveland area) and hire people from for-profit sectors

Current Employee – been working at Cleveland Clinic
Pros – The benefits are great, they promote wellness and for the most part keep employees informed about changes within the institution.
Cons – Very little flexibility for emergency situations or between work and home life situations.
Too many 'cooks in the ktichen' regarding management levels/work leaders/supervisors, etc...
Advice to Senior Management – More flexibility without the worry or threat of being penalized all the time.

Former Employee – worked at Cleveland Clinic
Pros – Reasonably secure work, health care is still growing, location is centric to local communities, brand name adds prestige to any resume'.
Cons – Very insular, politics play a more important role than merit. Connections are more strongly measured than skillset, and communication is virtually non-existent from management to supervisory staff.
Advice to Senior Management – Don't teach your people to lie, then fire them for doing it.
