I have been working at Cleveland State full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

I love working with students at Cleveland State. The atmosphere of downtown Cleveland also makes Cleveland State an exciting place to work with the diversity of people, food, and entertainment.

    Cons

One of the cons is that the pay is not comparable to pay at other institutions. Another con is unrealistic expectations placed on employees when staff is reduced.

I worked at Cleveland State part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I was a student technician in CSU's IS&T Department and it was the best job I could have as a student. Hours were flexible, the pay was OK, and the department even paid for training/certifications. My supervisors were great and very supporting to the student technicians. Many of the students would find an internship or co-op for a semester or so, and many of them came back to IS&T afterwards because most of us had a great relationship with our supervisors. I learned so much from this job and still use many of the skills I learned in IS&T today.

    Cons

While there are smart and polite people in this department, a handful of the senior managers are complete morons who are disconnected from the rest of the department. Recently, they (sort of) fixed this and juggled them around to different areas. In addition, my supervisors' boss threatened to get rid of all the student workers at least once a year. Good luck supporting all faculty and staff computing equipment when your student workers (about 20 technicians) that do your heavy-lifting and dirty work are gone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - If you have a political agenda, drop it and maybe people will want to work with you.
    - Respect your student workers. Many of them are just getting by and still manage to do all your dirty work, help the faculty and staff everyday with computer problems, and they are only part-time workers.
    - Keep offering training to your workers at all levels.

I have been working at Cleveland State as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

A good pay with flexible time schedule for me, good apportunities. Huge Campus location in downtown and suburbs.

    Cons

Haven't found any major con's yet , but one I would definitely like to share is parking on campus. It is getting expensive to buy parking pass. But anyway it is easily excessible via public transport.

I worked at Cleveland State part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Very flexible schedule, decent pay, good hours, treated very well for the most part. As far as student jobs go, working for the University allows you the best balance of free time and pay, as well as being treated well.

    Cons

Some full time employees condescend you, limited hours, no full time opportunity for students since ACA. Also, even as a student you will be forced to contribute to the OPERS retirement system, a perk if your going into public service since you will already have service credits, otherwise, you can file a form to get your money back.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The availability of more hours would be nice, otherwise everything is pretty much done well.

    Pros

Great place to work if you like getting payed less to do a goood job.

    Cons

The pay rate is lousy .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pratice the philosophy your school preaches and take care of the employees like you take care of the students not only do the students make the school so do the back bone of the school and that's the employees if you were in their place you would like decent pay where you were better able to take care of your family.. a school is only as great as it's employees and they take care of everyone at the school.#betterpaystrongerunion

parking was very expensive, had to be there either really early or late to find a decent spot.
issues would sometimes be brushed under the rug and were never really taken care of.
