HIGHLY FULFILLING and REWARDING EXPERIENCE WORKING FOR THIS COMPANY

    Pros

amazing culture, dynamic and progressive legendary CEO who is an inspiration to employees at all levels of the company - its rare to find such and engaging, respectful, accommodating and visionary CEO still with the company after 14 years - especially since the CEO is a founding member of the company

    Cons

there are little challenges in working here if one compares the challenges usually faced at larger corporates, parastatals, start ups and small mid sized and medium companies - where challenges exist and they are raised the company has a tendency to consider addressing these challenges - and more often than not something positive is done - obviously within reason

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

continue to promote and drive the process of evolving the company to higher levels of process maturity

    Pros

Real sense of character - small enough to be seen and heard, feels like family (good and bad).
Deeply and broadly held set of beliefs about what makes the company a great place to work and an ethical player in a fairly ethically challenged industry.
Generally very strong employee loyalty and engagement.
Some amazing Engineering talent, and well-embraced Agile practices.
Really pleasant working environment, lots of light and air, low noise, good equipment.
Fun staff activities and very active social corporate responsibility in a real way.
Some very smart, hard-working individuals who are really passionate about their field.
Lots of opportunity to roll up your sleeves and make the world a better place.
Good employee benefits, vacation benefits, humane workplace with room for family and life balance.

    Cons

Some truly bad apples, highly entrenched in their 'comfort zone'. Some clock-watching, some actively disengaged staff. Legacy of management incompetence to get the wrong people off the bus.
More tolerance for political nonsense than makes sense in a company this size.
Very much still on the journey to a mature company - lots of process immaturity, management immaturity, duplication of tools, overly manual processes, lack of managerial discipline, heroism required to save the day - all typical of a company in this phase of development.
Tension between executive managers often too transparent to staff at the ground level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold the line on current strategic thinking - maintain focus, continue to build a sense of rhythm and discipline.
Continue to invest in maturing processes, practices and tools, and hiring strong middle management talent with experience beyond start-up, but not necessarily corporate.
Act decisively to remove toxic managers and individuals.

    Pros

What a privilege to work for such a stunning company! Great company culture; staff well looked after; competitive remuneration packages and benefits. Employees get the opportunity to up-skill themselves and to contribute towards the company's success. Just an awesome company to work for!! Thanks Clickatell!

    Cons

Every company will have some challenges - it depends on how the company deals with its challenges. Some department have to start working together instead of against each other.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management don't always appreciated what their employees are doing and they also don't make an effort to retain their staff.

I have been working at Clickatell full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Clickatell is a young, dynamic, positive and energetic company. The culture is very much that of we move forward together by learning together. This is where the innovations start and grow into amazing products.

Clickatell is also extremely involved in up skilling the community around us and have interns and learnership programs throughout the year!

This is outside of the involvement in other socio-economic projects that are run throughout the year that touch the lives of many people. We are passionate about knowledge transfer and making sure that every one is striving to be best that they can be. I love being a clickatellian!

    Cons

Its such an amazing company to work for that people don't leave, so at times growth in a specific area can be something of a challenge.

Some people have become to comfortable by the awesome work environment and don't pull their weight beyond the bare requirements and don't live the company values.

I have been working at Clickatell full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Clickatell can pride iteself with a fun, young and dynamic culture. Little to no corporate vibe. Staff gatherings on Friday's are full of humour and celebration. Most employees are eager to transfer skills and help each other out. Very acceptable environment and easy for new comers to become a co- Clickatellian.

    Cons

Two disticnt different business units with very different product lines and geographic focus areas - this definately dilutes the one Clikcatell business focus where everyone pulls in the same direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To open yourselves for doing things differently.

I have been working at Clickatell full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Fun and Vibey working environment
    - Plenty of Company Outings
    - Potential for large bonus attached to company profit

    Cons

    - Innovation is always scrapped in favour of the way things have been done 13 years ago.
    - Long term staff protecting the status quo at the cost of innovation
    - Well defined values, but they are not upheld
    - Slow response to market changes
    - Decision making process is a mystery to the company except for those who attend the Executive retreat

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All this advice is aimed directly at the CEO.

    - Fire the entire eStaff. Most of the executives are using Clickatell as a stepping stone to pad their CVs and land a more prominent position with a bank or a US based tech company.

    - Split the company into two separate entities.

    - Allow the CMX business to be run by the "old hands" to milk it for as long as possible before SMS becomes irrelevant.

    - Force the CTX business to become innovative by restricting funding. The current leaning towards mass spending and "best practices" will not bring the desired effect of leading the market.

    Pros

    Great solutions and loyal partners.

    Cons

Management does not get along with one another as well as their direct reports. Instead of inspiring their employees to excel in their line of work, they lead by fear-mongering tactics and pit employees against one another. Managers have often talked down on their employees and failed to execute on value added partner solutions. Although they say they have an open door policy, suggestions and concerns have all too often been overlooked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get off your high-horse and stop looking down on your employees. Maybe then you can salvage your business.

I have been working at Clickatell as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Saturated market so plenty of competing offers to choose from.

    Cons

For the 10 months I consulted with the company, I observed that management LACKS vision and innovation. They are scared to take risks and blow off strategic partnerships which could garner more revenues for the company. They fail to recognize opportunities to capitalize on evolving technologies and have not done anything to keep up with competitive offers. Projects are mismanaged and have poor execution when launching new websites, products, internal training, etc. One executive preaches about execution, but has been at the helm of failed web and product launches.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shape up. LISTEN to your employees.

I worked at Clickatell as a contractor

    Pros

Legacy Business is still doing well –they are not running out of money or business

    Cons

Do not listen to their claim of being like a startup, simply based on their VC funding. If you are not simply a “yes” man type, you will not want to be in the business. They will make your life miserable if you should ever question decisions or strategies, or try to be more engaged. The leadership does not want to admit any weakness, nor take actions to fix them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Productivity and Accountability are critical. Without that you will never have the success you are working toward, and continue to struggle with at the slow pace you operate in currently. Skills matter in today's work environment, not seniority.
