Pros
I had lots of flexibility as a working mom. I really valued this flexibility. I lived near the Oakland office and had super commute on BART. 1/2 day Fridays during the summer was a super perk!
Many, many smart people work at Clorox.
Cons
There are so many smart people and little movement, that it is hard to get promoted.
Advice to Senior Management
Provide more rotation opportunities, career advancement opportunities to keep your talent.
Pros
the people at clorox are all pretty level headed and there isn't much drama
Cons
management says one thing and does another all the time. It gets a little frustrating
Advice to Senior Management
nah
Pros
Growth and development opportunities
strong teamwork environment
Cons
Limited career advancement opportunities. Most career moves were lateral across departments.
Pros
Good work life balance
Fair compensation
Above average benefits
Very competent co-workers, who are willing to help out other areas of the company
Cons
Sometimes it takes too long to make a decision. We tend to overanalyze situations at times, delaying the initiation of a good idea.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to listen to the feedback of the employees. The engagement surveys seem to be taken seriously. I like some of the recent changes that have been made related to employee feedback...keep it up.
Pros
Relationship oriented - horizontally, work life balance(depending on manager), great brand to be associated with, really smart people to work with, stable company even during major economic downturns
Cons
Vertical organization, strong politics, its who you know that gets you there as compared to what and how you did your job, low diversity in top positions(women, minority), not much accountabilty unless mission critical, no leadership development, people with little to no experience managing people put in managerial positions with no training to equip them, open spots mostly filled by people from outside versus promoting people from within. Not agile although now attempting to become innovative, disengaged leadership
Advice to Senior Management
Create developing atmostphere for your people. People need to be rewarded for the hard work they do. Leadership should engage more with people in the organization.
Pros
good pay and benefits , modern
Cons
very long days and every other weekend work
Pros
The people at Clorox are by far its greatest asset. One would be hard pressed to find a better collection of talented, intelligent and engaged employees at any large company. Salary, benefits and work life balance are on par if not better than other companies I have worked for. Clorox also encourages cross functional development.
Cons
If you do not fit the Clorox mold then you will not move up the leadership ladder. If you are not technically sound or struggle in your position you will be weeded out very quickly. This company is full of high performers so you had better bring your “A” game. Moving up as a young scientist isn’t terribly difficult but with the limited number of management roles it’s extremely difficult to move out of a Senior Scientist role.
Advice to Senior Management
Way too many processes in place. Projects move ridiculously slowly due to the company being so risk averse. Clorox needs to trust the experts (the scientist) and give teams more decision making ability if they every hope to speed up commercialization.
Pros
Undoubtedly the best place I've ever worked. If you're lucky enough to work here, expect to interact with the smartest people around...and to work hard. But also expect to be in control of your own career and destiny. Clorox is the kind of place most people wish they worked. The company makes the best products, and spends a fortune making sure everyone knows about them. And when you're at a networking event, it's really, really rewarding to hear "I LOVE (insert brand here)" when you tell them about the Clorox portfolio.
Cons
The brand portfolio is P&Gesque...without the breadth and depth. But we hold our own...and then some. There's a reason 90% of our brands are #1 in their category.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep people excited. After all, we make products that make everyday life better, every day. The more people feel that they're a part of a legendary company, the more they'll do to help Clorox grow. Never lost sight of that!
Pros
Good employees and compensation package. Offer a lot of resources and capabilities. Don is a tremendous leader.
Cons
Very limited opportunities for field employees unless willing to relocate to Oakland. Standard corporate politics. Poor innovation.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote better product development to stay on the cutting edge, not just a new scent or flavor. Extend growth opportunities outside of the GO
Pros
- Great employees who are smart and want to do a good job
- People are engaged in their projects
- Great brands
- Management WANTS you to be successful
Cons
- Pleasanton is a bit too far from the city to be easy to commute to from SF
-If you don't have thick skin, don't apply. Feedback is continuous so that doesn't work for some. However, it works great for others.
