I worked at Clorox full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people - this is why people stay even with the cons mentioned. Work life balance is one of the best. Half day Fridays during summer.

    Cons

Losing direction/vision for where to take existing brands. No more room for innovation or growth so grasping at straws to make changes to improve/cut costs such a recent re-org. Continue to do shady things such as forcing vacation over Thanksgiving telling employees it's due to them holding into too much vacation. Good learning experience but politics outweigh benefits.

    Advice to Management

Management makes call on everything regardless of data/consumer testing so why waste everyone's time. Continue to recruit/bring in specific personality type and only value outspoken employees - if your style is differ you will not succeed here.

    Pros

A company that does care about people, it's employees, and consumers. The focus is making everyday life better every day.

    Cons

Difficult culture due to constant management change and management roles filled based more on developing managers, not providing mangers with the education and experience to manage the function or employees.

I have been working at Clorox full-time

    Pros

+ Good location in Tri-Valley near 580, 680, BART, ACE train + shuttle service. + Good summer half day Fridays. + Friendly people. + Some people have a good work life balance. + Good corporate values. + Diverse product portfolio.

    Cons

    - Limited to no respect or reward for experienced technical people. - Antagonize experienced employees via top-down performance management program and preferentially reward newbies. - Limited advancement opportunities on technical track. - High turnover in R&D as a result, which ever increases the burden on the few remaining experienced employees.

    Advice to Management

+ If you are in or want to be in management, you are probably happy with a great work/life balance and the ability to choose to work remotely. - If you are in the lab or lab-equivalent, good luck - you'll need it depending on which of the increasing number of non-technical managers is thrust upon you.

    Pros

Work life balance is taken seriously here. We have half day Fridays in the summer months and management is very flexible about time you may need away from the office to be with your kiddos.

    Cons

They recently got rid of cash awards. We still have annual bonus targets but we used to be able to nominate someone for a (smaller) cash bonus on the spot. That was a little de-motivating. Also, it is harder to get promoted in a support function vs. a business unit function.

    Advice to Management

Have more defined career paths for those in support functions.

I have been working at Clorox full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Overall the company is good to work for, benefits are solid, work life balance for the most part is reasonable and upper management seems to have a clear vision

    Cons

If you are looking for a career in IT Clorox is not the place to be. Unless you are in upper management in IT do not plan on being promoted. Promotions from within IT are few and far to come by and the department is extremely top heavy. The department is also so heavily outsourced that stepping into the IT building feels more line stepping into another country. All focus of success is measured on delivering projects - so if you are in a maintenance role in the department you will never be acknowledged for your efforts. IT is also the one area of the company that does not practice a work/life balance - un spoken expectations are work yourself to the bone before considering time for yourself..

    Advice to Management

More promotions for lower grade levels. Adjust pay scales to reflect current economy and demand for IT - especially in the Bay Area which is one of the most costly places to live in the country.

I have been working at Clorox full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great work-life balance. Demanding projects. Health benefits. A drive to be more transparent. Open to movement to different job functions.

    Cons

Typical corporate politics but common elsewhere. Redundant team meetings. R&D has less influence on decision making but expected for a consumer goods company.
