Great Company, Hard Work, Freedom to Work Independently.

    Merchandiser (Former Employee)
    Youngstown, OH

ProsI was a Merchandiser for Coca-Cola. The job allows you to work independently in local grocery stores. The work is physically demanding at times, but there are also days that are quite easy. You generally work alone, although store owners/managers are periodically checking in on you. If you are lucky enough to receive a concrete route, become friends with these owners/managers, as they can make your life more difficult. Good pay, good benefits, must be a hardworker.

ConsCommunication lacks at times between account managers and merchandisers. The account managers are in charge of leaving build sheets for merchandisers (a drawing of a display depicting what is supposed to go where), but they often forget or choose not to. Being on call at least once a week, meaning they call you around 5:30 am telling you if you are working that day or not.

Advice to Senior ManagementStay on top of account managers in regards to communication.

It was a great learning experience in management compared to what is taught in college MBA classes.

    Maintenance Supervisor (Current Employee)
    Nashville, TN

ProsThe people were generally friendly and hard working. The benefits were good. The general style and idea of their management methods seemed appropriate to the industry.

ConsThere was an over-emphasis on maintaining the budget and cutting costs, primarily overtime and less concentration on improving operations performance, thus making them more reactive than proactive as in an internally focused process. Some managers had a different idea of the mission where the treatment of the production and maintenance workers were concerned and created a low morale among the workers.

Long hours, inept management, and Trainee's treated poorly.

    Driver Merchandiser (Former Employee)
    North Charleston, SC

    Pros-Competitive pay
    -Good healthcare options
    - 401 K

Cons-Early mornings If you have an average commute 30 or so minutes you are looking at waking up at 3:30 am b/c you have to be there at 4:30 am
-Long hours 14 hours days everyday not including coming to and from work as trainee I was working 64 to 67 hours a week.
-Middle managers show excessive favoritism and are burned out all they are looking for is a work horse so they don't have to actual manage the work load.
-High turnover rate on driver merchandiser b/c of long hours, mentally and physically demanding, and botched trainee program.
-Trainee's are used as relief for overly burdened routes b/c they are so short handed. Be prepared for long days everyday and demanding coworkers who expect you to shoulder more than your share of the work.
-Massive responsibilities: Obtain CDL learners permit and CDL working 60+ hours weekly. Learn merchandising and stocking displays and coolers. Product rotation and building displays and racks. Learning customer habits and expectations.
-Overly religious themes can leave non-religious people feeling out of the loop.

Advice to Senior Management1.) Trainee's should be there to learn not as personal servants to other driver merchandisers. 2.) New hires need more instruction and communication time with actual managers not route specialist. 3.) Work on your bedside manner 4.) Communicate with employees expectations/problems before it becomes a major problem.

    Back stabbing and paranoia

    Technical Services Dispatcher (Former Employee)
    Charlotte, NC

    ProsEasy job, decent employee discount

ConsMiddle to Upper Management is so paranoid, it's not even funny. ). Management back stabs and treats their employees poorly. They do not think outside the box, and ideas are not welcomed. Very antiquated technology. You are harassed into donating to United Way (probably so someone somewhere gets a bonus Not sure if The Coca-Cola Co. (Atlanta) knows that Coca-Cola Bottling Consolidated does a poor job of representing them.
