Pros
Cognex demands a lot of their employees, and they will tell you this at the first interview. However if you enjoy working with intelligent, hard working people you won't mind the long hours. They also go out of their way to make sure employees feel appreciated with parties, recognition awards, bonuses.
Cons
Dr. Bob (the founder) doesn't always want to hear opinions that differ from his own.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to show employee appreciation, provide flexibility for family life so people do not have to choose one or the other.
Pros
Good benefits
Good people to work with
Exciting tech
Recognition awards when you are lucky to be chosen
Very profitable
Cons
Lack of communication from upper management
Local management hit and miss
No real clear vision of where the company wants to go
Too much rivalry between groups that hampers cohesiveness and communication
Advice to Senior Management
Management really needs to find a way to communicate with it's staff at all locations. Cognex is a growing company with multiple locations that all have a significant role to play but they treat anyone who is not at the HQ like the whipping boy.
Pros
Smart management. Puts company and employee needs ahead of personal needs. Rewards and incentives for top performers.
Cons
Management is smart and knowledgeable but doesn't always listen to younger engineers or others hired from the outside that might have good ideas too.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to grow the company. Take some risks to diversify. You have great knowledge that can be applied to new markets.
Pros
Overall cognex is a great company to work for. Very laid back work environment for the most part as long as you get your work done. There is a lot of freedom to be creative and work out your own solutions to problems. Managers always listen to suggestions and are open to your ideas.
Cons
Too far out of town. But that is only in relation to where I live so...
Advice to Senior Management
Better communication between the different groups in the building.
