    Pros

    1. Independence 2. Entrepreneurial Spirit 3. Energy The management needs to be more open and communicative when it comes to bad news. Management does not project accurately all the capabilities it has. People on the street still compare the older management to the newer one unfairly. Not sure of the impact on the strett. IWorking in cognizant is very informal. Sometimes it needs to have some structure. Cognizant does foster a sense of community and makes people proud of being a Cognizant Employee. Pros

Cognizant has provided a challenging work environment. I have been very satistifed with the compentency of our management. There are definitely opportunities for professional & career growth

    Cons

I haven't been very satistified with my salary thus far. You really need to make management before you start seeing a good salary and respectable bonuses. Most people at below-management levels in our office received bonuses in the neighborhood of 300-500 last year, which is a hard pill to swallow when managers are making 7,000 - 12,000 bonuses. While there are definitely opportunities for growth, it seems that a LOT of people get stuck at the Senior Associate level. After that, the people that I know who are above that level seem to experience steady career growth and professional development. You really need to make sure you are doing something to stand out to get beyond the SA level, or you will get stuck & frustrated. I guess that is the whole "manage up or manage out" philosophy, but I do know a lot of talented people that are struggling to break through to the next level - it is very competative.

    Advice to Management

Would love to have a more transparent pay structure.

    Pros

Great Business model, Phenomenal growth and strong leadership

    Cons

Consulting usually demands longer hours. Coupled with offshoring , it is always a 40+ work week. Such expectations are set right from the beginning though.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work

    Cons

Heavy imbalance between Lateral recruit both (On-site & off-shore) and home grown folks from a pay perspective Company has grown quite huge - learn to play Politics if u need to grow

    Advice to Management

Let merit be based on performance

    Pros

This is an organization that rewards the aggressive and the go-getter. Accommodates the employee geographical locational needs / preferences to a very great extent. If you ever look to go back to India and currently in the US, this is the company to be with.

    Cons

On consultancy front Cognizant is growing into that space very recently, and is focused on consulting assignments only recently. Even though it tries to go into the turfs of Accenture and IBM, it is still not there. And the software delivery DNA is not easy to tailor to consulting mind-set very easily. Pay may not be the best in class too.

    Advice to Management

The Consulting track is not matured, and the management has to accept the fact. And must try to align the Consultant career growth (promotions etc), remunerations with the industry standards. Consultants retention is going to be very difficult, especially when you think that they are your secret sauce.

    Pros

Good work-life balance, good growth opportunities and overall a great place to work. It takes some time to get used to the culture but most people who make it beyond a year will usually stick around for the long haul.

    Cons

As with any growing organization, managing a company of this size is getting more and more bureaucratic. Also, management needs to address the growth pangs of associates more creatively.

    Advice to Management

Nice job, but watch out going forward - others have been here and we know where they are now!!
