    I have been working at Coinstar full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Trying to do the right thing
    Good Salary and Benefits
    Good extra perks like Free Redbox movies, Movie Screenings, Mariner Baseball game, etc

    Cons

    Stuck in current process which makes it hard to make improvement
    Legacy Systems are so intertwined that no one really wants to take the time and spend the money to really fix the issues

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be willing to step up and make the tough decisions and spend the money on removing legacy systems that are no longer supported and hard to get data and patched together processes to get data moved to new systems.

    Pros

    One of the fast growing companies in WA. Decent pay/benefits, challenging work

    Cons

    Policial environment
    Work life balance is not practiced by leadership, causing directors and sr managers to loose their work life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    It's not good to work 60-70 hours all the time, causes burn out.

    I worked at Coinstar full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    It been a year so I would not know what perks are left. You get a phone for company use.

    Cons

    The company changed it's coin field from techs to service people and are paying them half of what they used to pay. Over the last year they have pushed out all the long time techs for people that can only do cleaning on the units. Managers are trying to cover for lack of techs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Remember you get the kind of employee you pay for. Your turn over is killing your field service.

    Core values don't match real-life day-day company

    Current Employee - Senior Manager
    Current Employee - Senior Manager

    I have been working at Coinstar full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    * Good camaraderie amongst peers
    * Plenty of free snacks and drinks
    * Benefit package ok

    Cons

    Company has lots its soul for innovation and some of the Directors/Management do not accurately reflect or practice the company values like "respect and integrity". A recent re0-org brought in a matrix development structure with too many layers of management who are out of touch with the sustaining versus innovating process. One Director is bent on building their fiefdom that key employees and contributors have either quit or unceremoniously escorted out when they don't agree with their pre-conceived direction or project status.
    Unbelievable to hear that the new CEO is being paid $1.6 million +.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Read your company values "communication, humility, accountability, integrity, respect, dedication". Practice them. Ask for feedback from their manager/director's direct reports, and listen to them. Be wary of the director/manager who does not practice the company values, who denigrates and disrespects fulltime employees as well as contractors. Communicate! The next director you hire should at least have a 4 year degree and have Hardware and Software experience.

    Pros

    * Lots of Humor
    * Colorful Atmosphere
    * Free Movies and Snacks
    * Generous Benefits

    Cons

    * Very Passive Agressive
    * Strong Personalities are Intimidating to Management
    * Management is NEVER Held Liable for Their Mistakes...It's ALWAYS Someone Else's Fault
    * The Diversity and Inclusion Department Isn't Diverse

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire sane people in the HR department. This will trickle down into sane people being hired everywhere. The Buddy hiring Buddy system isn't working. The Culture and Values are terrific, but not if only the underlings are held to that standard.

    I worked at Coinstar full-time

    Pros

    Overall the "old" Redbox employees are very friendly and create a great work environment. The company also tries to create a fun work environment...cupcake day, free movies, various entertainment events, etc.

    Cons

    Minimal training/investing in people, must be apart of the "clique" or you're destined to fail despite your qualifications/experience...not a fair playing field, especially with the Sales team...what applies for one does NOT apply for ALL

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Training for management in people relations, diversity and INCLUSION, come out of your office and relate to your team

    I have been working at Coinstar full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    CFO who knows what he is doing;
    Friendly co-workers

    Cons

    Not willing to promote from within - managers are stiff about promoting low to mid level employees or even letting them move to a different group.
    Very top Heavy - company continues to hire more manager level positions and less workers to do the job.
    Management vested in trying to get high level jobs instead of doing their jobs
    Higher levels taking credit for work done by their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Invest more In the Low-To-Mid Level Employees; motivate them and try to retain these workers.
    Improve training opportunities for employees
    Listen to the ideas employees have on how to improve

    Too Many VPs (Who Only Care About The Friends They Hire)
    HR Dept Understaffed
    Compensation Folks Are Out of Touch

    Former Employee - Senior Manager in Bellevue, WA

    I worked at Coinstar full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great CEO & CFO
    A company with a lot of promise business wise
    Pockets of good leaders that work hard
    Employees that are generally committed

    Cons

    Lack of HR support....way too lean and highly conservative. As a business leader, my hands were tied when it came to hiring and firing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Need to truly merge/align with Redbox. It is difficult to have employees in Chicago that experience one thing and others in Bellevue who experience something else. Coinstar should be one company.

    Reinvent HR. It needs to be a value-added partner to us business leaders, not just policy enforcers.

    Free Food and free DVDs

    Cons

    Way too many to list

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be honest with your employees, don’t just talk about integrity, rather practice and believe in it. Having a bunch of lame and dis-honest manager will ultimately fail you. Promote with in rather than off the street
