I have been working at Coinstar full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

CFO who knows what he is doing; Friendly co-workers

    Cons

Not willing to promote from within - managers are stiff about promoting low to mid level employees or even letting them move to a different group. Very top Heavy - company continues to hire more manager level positions and less workers to do the job. Management vested in trying to get high level jobs instead of doing their jobs Higher levels taking credit for work done by their employees.

    Advice to Management

Invest more In the Low-To-Mid Level Employees; motivate them and try to retain these workers. Improve training opportunities for employees Listen to the ideas employees have on how to improve

    Cons

"Good Old Boy" Network (No Advancement If You're Not In The Circle Of Trust) Too Many VPs (Who Only Care About The Friends They Hire) HR Dept Understaffed Compensation Folks Are Out of Touch

    Advice to Management

Start Investing More In The Low-To-Mid Level Employees And Less On Your Buddy VPs

    Pros

Great CEO & CFO A company with a lot of promise business wise Pockets of good leaders that work hard Employees that are generally committed

    Cons

Lack of HR support....way too lean and highly conservative. As a business leader, my hands were tied when it came to hiring and firing.

    Advice to Management

Need to truly merge/align with Redbox. It is difficult to have employees in Chicago that experience one thing and others in Bellevue who experience something else. Coinstar should be one company. Reinvent HR. It needs to be a value-added partner to us business leaders, not just policy enforcers.

    Pros

    Free Food and free DVDs

    Cons

    Way too many to list

    Advice to Management

Be honest with your employees, don’t just talk about integrity, rather practice and believe in it. Having a bunch of lame and dis-honest manager will ultimately fail you. Promote with in rather than off the street

I have been working at Coinstar full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Solid benefit package Opportunities to advance You get to work with bright people Lots of fun company events, such as going out for private movie screenings at a local cinema Nice office space to work in

    Cons

You need to be responsible for your own career, as the company is not strong on helping you to identify a career path A little heavy on 'Directors' in the organization: we need fewer bosses and more workers

    Advice to Management

Spend some time talking with your employees and letting them know that you recognize their efforts and care about them as employees and as people

    Pros

Salary and benefits are good along with the movie rentals to the employees. The food eveyone brings in is also quite good...

    Cons

Micro-management, terrible training, lack of direction from Management Team in the tax department. Unprofessional and juvenille behavior in the tax management team. The gossip and constant loud laughing is quite unprofessional and very distracting. Too many senseless meetings!

    Advice to Management

Desperate need for a complete overhaul of the tax management team in Oakbrook, IL.

I worked at Coinstar full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay is very good compared to the work

    Cons

The company has no solid direction. There are teams of 12 people with 4 to 5 managers. Very HR top heavy. There were at least 3 HR reps for my department of less than 15 people. No career advancement. Management and HR talked nonstop about how employees needed a clear career path but when anyone tried to establish a way to make it happen they were shot down in endless meetings. To many egos to get anything done. People will completely kill projects simply because they didn't think of it. There is way too much political drama. No one wants to take accountability for decisions and employees pay the price.

    Advice to Management

Lead your teams. Management tends to step back and be too hands off. There is very little direction and management is often invisible unless something is wrong and then it's just a big exercise in C.Y.A.

    Pros

The relaxed atmosphere, central location in town, free pop

    Cons

easy to be fired due to poor communication, time off requests must be made two weeks in advance, working on all holidays, including Christmas

    Advice to Management

Increase pay, min wage is almost $10. Expand site, allow for advancement, and for gosh sakes set clear expecations!

    Pros

It is great to be your own driving force and motivation in your day-to-day work. They encourage you to run your "area" like it is your own.

    Cons

Communication in this company is pretty poor. Also, in the maintenance area, there are little, to no opportunities for career advancement.

    Advice to Management

What I noticed while working for them was that the Senior Management was great and enthusiastic but that they were oblivious to the day-to-day operations in the field. Not totally their fault, but they should hold the management that they hire accountable for the trouble on the ground floor. The lower employees feel very expendable and under valued.
