    Cons

The pay isn't much (like a said, it's more of a high school job), depending on location it can be slow and/or boring, customers can be difficult

    Pros

If you like a fast paced environment, like the smell of ice cream, and have great amount of enthusiasm. You have to sing and dance, and you get to sample all the flavors.

    Cons

Low wage, growth in the team will just lead to more work for not the equivalent pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Team building, and better advertising, and cheaper prices!

    Pros

As GM, pay was good and benefits provided. I LOVED the store owner, but I'm not reviewing the franchise as much as the Corporate Head. Liked the large and comprehensible data base provided to cover training, procedures, safety standards and marketing materials. Liked the product (mostly). BUT...

    Cons

Corporate headquarters seemed to have stopped caring about franchises years ago. They let their number one selling location wither away and close because they wouldn't respond to changing needs or give permission for new equipment and upgrades that other stores had been granted in the past. If this parent company were human, social services would be stepping in for severe neglect. Also, the whole dance-and-sing for your tips is cool and all, but contrasts the uniform and environment. They gave us rigid guidelines on professional and adult appearance at all times, and then expected silly and childlike behavior. Pick one and go with it-- The two together is just awkward.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Care about your franchises.

    Pros

singing dancing and enjoying ice cream

    Cons

the specific one i worked at did not have an owner that cared and would not properly fix things. 1 month after a mutual decision of me leaving the corporation made a great take over. Now people can enjoy the great ice cream that the franchise has to offer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep them all ran by the corporation, or people that care and realize you must spend money on an ice cream fridge in order to stay in business.

    Pros

free ice cream. fast paced. Sing a lot which is fun. Some coworkers were really nice.

    Cons

It all depends on who the mananger is. The one i had the unpleasure to work with broke many rules and yelled at everyone. It was unfair. Also if you do a bad job and ask how to improve, your hours get cut and that's it. not worth it. When you are new, you get thrown to the stone and you gotta learn by training yourself. which means you get other coworkers getting mad at you when you mess up because you are new. not fair.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

DO NOT YELL AT YOUR EMPLOYEES! AND STOP BREAKING ALL OF THE RULES!

An easy-going, fun place to work

    Pros

    Overall:
    -Scheduling is generally consistent
-Tasks are all very easy or are accompanied by thorough directions
-Young and fun college/high school age crew
    -Minimal skills needed
    -On the job training
    -Fun atmosphere
-Get to keep tips at the end of the shift
-Most days are fast-paced so time goes by quickly
-Customers are normally in a good mood
-Occasional down-time to hang out or take a quick break
    -Good customer service experience

To summarize, his is a great first job for anyone looking for work experience or just looking to make extra money. I can justify the minimum wage hourly salary only because minimal skills and education are needed for this job. You get tipped pretty generously most shifts so that makes up for the crappy pay. If you dislike people or do not like to have fun, this may not be the job for you because it requires you to sing jingles for tips and interact with all different types of people. If you are outgoing or can force yourself to be outgoing, it is about the most simple, laid back job you could have.

    Cons

-Most starting employees make no more than minimum wage and most do not or can not advance
-No way to really advance except if chosen to be a shift leader, basically, which does not pay much more than min. wage
-Closing shift generally kind of sucks with all the clean-up work
-There is no real formal training, which can be hard to deal with if you are not adaptable
-Owner doesn't really seem like he knows his own business much at all
-Younger managers can be unreliable at times
-"Benefits"/perks are not as great as one might think. only 10% off the products, which is probably 50 cents or less off
    -Turnover rate is fairly high

This job is not the best, but also not the worst. If you are not looking to stay with this business for long (i.e. summer job, etc.), it is pretty decent and overall I cannot complain too much. You get quick at cleaning up at the end of the day and usually get out at a decent time. If you are a good employee, you may get promoted to a shift leader/key holder. Just respect your manager as well as the owner and you will be treated very well at Cold Stone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more opportunities for advancement and definitely invest in a better training program rather than throwing new employees into the action right away. Getting thrown into things was not stressful for me but I could see how it could suck for other people who have little to no food service skills.

    Pros

The people who I worked with were very sweet and helpful. You get free ice cream, which is always a plus. The tips increased my pay by quite a bit which was under minimum wage.

    Cons

I had to work alone sometimes, which is really frustrating especially during rushes. Pretty much just working the store alone in general is horrible. So if your boss is ever going to have you working alone it will be no fun, unless you have the morning shift, that is super easy to work and no one comes in hardly. No tips during that time.
