I worked at Cold Stone Creamery full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The company was fun to work for and the pay was not bad at all

    Cons

The training at Cold Stone was poor all the way up to the franchise owners.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure that the training of the franchise owners is good and also put more training info online for the managers to be able to refer to for guidance.

    Fun Job

I worked at Cold Stone Creamery part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to learn how to manage and how to handle different situations with customers. Recommended for a summer job. Promotion from server to shift leader was easily obtained.

    Cons

People are very particular about their ice cream. Singing can get pretty annoying if you don't have the right attitude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Annual pay raises would be appreciated.

    Pros

    Great people!
    High energy environment!
You can be yourself. This is an ideal place for a spunky high school student to start working. Great customer service training.

    Cons

There was quite a bit of favoritism

    Pros

Fun going to work because you work with people your age. High School-College. The shifts can be long but Fridays nights are busy and you can make a decent amount from tips.

    Cons

The pay isn't very good and the management doesn't seem to care. They don't require much from you and don't have any incentives to work harder. The owners are a couple and the husband took over running the store and they hired a terrible manager to run it when he isn't there.

    Pros

Flexible hours and TIPS! I got a lot of tips working at my store. Sundays were always the busiest which were great for me.

    Cons

The cons are that my store was so small and when id did get busy it got bad and messy. The ghea would overheat allll of the time and we would have to replace all of the ice creams with new ones.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I like what you are doing and that you are always there to help the employees on a daily basis.

    Pros

Fun coworkers! And ice cream while you work, if you can find time to eat it.

    Cons

Training was lacking, mostly on a computer, only one day of hands-on training before throwing you into the ring. Most confusing register. Too much emphasis on getting customers to buy more ice cream than they want, actual rankings in the back of who's selling the most Gotta Have It sizes. Also, they hired 11 new people at the start of summer so we all barely got any hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of competition between workers, we're all high schoolers! More hands-on training and less videos.

    Pros

Sampling EVERYTHING! Mixing and meeting community leaders, families and classmates. Learning how to spot problems before they happen and fix them. Tight on both cleanliness and customer-centric attitudes and performance.

    Cons

Terrible hours. For the array of things I did, (from scooping ice cream to cleaning bathrooms, patios and waste water) $300/mo was not okay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to ensure the grease trap is as new as possible. Self cleaning, maybe.

I worked at Cold Stone Creamery part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great people that are passionate about ice cream and customer service. It is a great first job for high school students and has a great opportunity for growth to shift leader.

    Cons

Management was very focused on profit, which can hurt the current team with unnecessary pressure. The store would stay open longer than the posted times to serve the late night movie theater crowd and make a few extra dollars. Since most workers are high school students these late hours conflict with school schedule.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Closing at the posted time would be helpful for teens who have school in the morning and being considerate of school hours and activities.
