    I worked at Coles Group

    Pros

Work environment has been significantly improved since Ian McLeod came on board - more open and friendly atmosphere, supportive teams, good leadership.

    Cons

Insufficient parking allocations, poor catering, new open plan seating arrangements a little too cramped in some departments and very male-dominated environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer more opportunities for lower level staff to participate in decision-making activities in order to get more involved in the business.

I have been working at Coles Group part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Good opportunities for growth within the company, both with various store management roles as well as roles in their warehousing division.
    - Good job for uni students, fits well around uni schedules, hours are very flexible.
    - Always plenty of hours available if you want them, you can virtually work as much or as little as you want.
    - Work isn't too stressful or demanding, at least compared to other entry level jobs (eg fast food).
    - Decent employee discounts on products (including Coles Insurance).
    - Penalty rates on Sundays and after 11pm.

    Cons

    - Some of the managers do go on power trips when they become managers. This happens virtually everywhere though, it's not exclusively a Coles problem. 90% of the management i've worked with though have been great; friendly and polite to all the employees.
    - A small minority of employees do seem to come from the...ahem...lower end of society. Basically losers with no other aspirations than to stack shelves their whole lives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Nothing really.

    - Ive met many great life-long friends.
    - Willing to compromise work terms according to your personal needs.
    - Flexible with shift hours and working remotely

    Cons

    - Tends to restructure too often.. expect to work for a new team every 6 months.
    - Slack working culture with many cruisers not pulling their weight while a small minority of employees do all the heavy lifting.
    - They are very frugal with percs.
    - Dont expect to get a huge payrise every year.

I have been working at Coles Group full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Coles has a wide number of opportunities for team members to develop themselves if they choose. The company is moving to hiring more and more grads which will encourage more skilled people to stick with the job that supports them through school. There are many areas of the business to try out and if show potential you will be encouraged to take on new challenges.

    Cons

The business can be inconsistent with management and business initiatives. Some stores struggle with underinvestment. You can be required to work long hours to develop your business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Build talent pipelines.

I have been working at Coles Group part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Networking, the hundreds of awesome people you meet, opportunities to progress your career IF you want it! On going support from management but you should be quiet about it.

    Cons

Youll have to ask for career opportunities, sometimes there is a lack of recognition, not enough communication between management and lower level staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Store managers/ store support and 2IC should take more of an effort to get to know those that are working for them!! Id love to see a happier attitude towards basic field work amongst management
