Solid general management training and development

Brand Manager (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at Colgate-Palmolive full-time for more than 3 years

ProsA formal educational training program ideal for career switchers looking to shift from an individual contributor-type role pre-MBA to a general management, team leadership role post-MBA.

ConsPay is average for the industry, which means low for NYC. A BM salary in Cincinnati goes a lot further than in NYC. The culture is also very specific and not for everyone: tons of presentations, meetings, alignment, consensus building. If you like to make fast, sweeping decisions, this is not the place to do so.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue delivering strong, steady financial results, but do keep am open mind for new ideas. Colgate hits tons of nice hits, but fewer big grand slams. You need some grand slams to be desirable and credible in this industry.

Administrative Assistant

Administrative Assistant III (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Colgate-Palmolive full-time for more than 5 years

ProsCompetitive salary, benefits, 401K plan.

ConsCan be a nice place to work but probably like anywhere it depends on the department you are assigned to. Admins who have been with the company a long time say that the workload has increased and the perks are fewer than in the past. Hours are 8:30 am. to 4:15 which is nice with half day on Fridays in the summer. Bonuses are mainly in the form of company stock.

Diverse place to work

Business Process Analyst (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at Colgate-Palmolive full-time for more than a year

ProsThey company has a diversity of backgrounds and ethnicities. The benefits and pay are comparable if not better than other companies.

ConsLike most companies the heirarchy is prominent. To get promoted it seems you have to be in the 'IN' crowd. Many people stay at the company for a long time which is good but it makes it difficult for newcomers.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed better career path roads and the ability to step outside your current role and try something different.

All about compliance. Zero creativity.

Associate Brand Manager (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Colgate-Palmolive full-time for more than a year

Pros- Job security
- Lots of Moms, therefore people are caring and nice
- Well-defined jobs. Not much thinking required.
- Good pay and work hours.

Cons- No creativity or challenge
- Political and hierarchial
- Very old school, old white men culture
- Strict, long winded processes
- Tries to mould employees. Opinions are discouraged.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou are losing young talent because the culture does not encourage creativity and input.

So far so good

Senior Research Scientist (Current Employee)
Piscataway, NJ

I have been working at Colgate-Palmolive full-time for more than 5 years

ProsI would say that there are many good things about working here:
Great benefits
Good employee compensation (even with only a mediocre review)
If you are ambitious and willing to work for what you want you usually can get it (within reason)
Good evironment to grow and cultivate your career
Ability to work overseas and move around if you're disatisfied with your position
Opportunities to grow yourself as a person and not just as an employee

ConsSomestimes stuffy and conservative, but getting better (more transparency)
Middle managers seem to be chosen based on advanced degrees and succession planning instead of actual managerial qualifications; I think this has to do with promoting people who've earned it, but by being limited to the promotion scale within the company. In order to get to a certain level, generally you must have people to manage, but not everyone can be a manager, so there are challenges there.
HR is sometimes kind of a joke; they are not really well versed in the company policies for the benefit programs or leave programs...

Advice to Senior ManagementRevising the promotion structure would be a good start. Being careful about promoting employees with advanced degrees when it appears that that is the reason for promotion. Working harder to reach young employees and jaded employees with the realties of being a large corperation.
