Pros – Truly multinational company that seriously values international exposure and experience and provides opportunities for short and long term assignments overseas and or across functions. Strong brands with stable financials and proven track record in good and bad economic times. Strong leadership training and development programs at higher levels of the organization.
Cons – Slow to adopt flexible ways of working to refelect the needs of today's employees. We do not have formal work from home options and in most cases working from home is still perceived poorly by management. Difficult to rise to senior management positions if you are not open to relocating to different country or region during your career. Slow career progression compared to new economy expectations of early in career folks coming into the business.
Advice to Senior Management – We really need to break out of the archaic midset that a person needs to be in the office to get the work done. We need a way to manage and balance career progression expectations of high potential high performing employees. Our promotions seem to be much slower than I would have expected.

Pros – Lucrative equity packages for sr. employees, decent work-life balance, strong culture of ethical values, great people, very good future for the company
Cons – The company is overly conservative, it is difficult to foster an entreprenuerial spirit in the US organization, but the conservatism has served us well in the poor economy
Advice to Senior Management – Need to get more external with customers and strengthen the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns, seem to be overly conservative

Current Employee – been working at Colgate-Palmolive
Pros – -good learning on the job
-disciplined approach to brand management
-consistent/ stable company
Cons – -mostly trade marketing. they don't build brands and don't really invest in brands other than toothpaste
-very traditional company. mostly run by sales
-its all about cost-cutting and hitting volume targets to report to wall street
-current leadership team is not so caring. morale is really low. very low staffed. they squeeze their peopel
Advice to Senior Management – -value your people more
-invest behind your brands and build equities. you can only do buy-one-get-one-frees and free-after-rebates for so long before your brands become commodities

Current Employee – been working at Colgate-Palmolive
Pros – * Extremely stable environment makes for anxiety-free employees.
* Large number of expats creates a very dynamic and competitive work environment (a plus)
* Very good internal training programs.
* Relationships matter
* NYC office location is fantastic
* Generally the expoused values are lived
Cons – * Sr. Management is afraid to cut dead weight . Poor performers are sidelined, but never let go. If you have one on your team, or God forbid above you -> you're screwed
* Highly political environment.
* Extremely conservative decision making, no one ever takes a risk
* Decisions (even small ones) are made at a ridiculously high level. Very much a top-down culture
* Bureaucratic. Some processes exist solely for the sake of saying we have a process
* When things go wrong, people are extremely quick to finger-point. It's always "who messed up" and not "what can we do to fix it."
* People move jobs too quickly and leave a complete mess in their wake (especially Marketing & Supply Chain).
Advice to Senior Management – * Push decision making further down the chain
* If you want to truly innovate, let people fail. Innovation very rarely grows from safe bets.
* Cut poor performers

young vibrant people
Cons – it's too bureaucratic
it's too formal
old fashioned

Advice to Senior Management – loosen up! it's just freakin' toothpaste. its not an investment bank and should be less formal to spark creativity and motivation among young employees

Former Employee – worked at Colgate-Palmolive
Pros – Benefits package - Full medical, excellent dental, 401K company match up to 6% of contribution. Casual Friday, office closes at 1 pm on Friday for summer hours. Salary is competitive. Job satisfaction relies quite a bit on where you are assigned and its the luck of the draw. Managers are rotated constantly.
Cons – Admins are assigned to up to 9 people. They have a lot silly training programs that don't really apply to admins although we were forced to participate. Company is extremely cost conscious and focused on shareholders.
Advice to Senior Management – Realize that managing with respect applies to all and is not just a phrase. Stop the excessive perks for top management on the backs of lower level employees.

Current Employee – been working at Colgate-Palmolive
Pros – Coming out of College it is a good company to start of with
Knowledge of low level workers are very helpful to you.
Gives you access to move up rapidly to a Grade 13 (That is when things start to get hard)
Offers in house courses to help you
Cons – Pay Scale is low especially if you live in NY area and are thinking or having a family and are a grade 14 or less
Tuition Reimbursement $10000 per year especially in NY area for graduate courses is low
Communication is poor like most big companies.
Advice to Senior Management – Not sure what can be done so that people will listen. Still cut throat and have to be very careful and watch out for your best interest
