I have been working at Colgate-Palmolive full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible Hours, Half Decent Pay, Some good people still left in the company

    Cons

Gradually reducing employee rewards and benefits, the You Can Make a Difference Program is a Joke. HR is invisible (high turnover), Moving jobs overseas to very underqualified people. Lots of managerial infighting. Loosing its values "best place to work" is now "a place to work". Very political. Used to be awesome but now it's not, the place is becoming like a government job without the security. Small cubes, small work space, like rats in a wheel.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The "bad economy" excuse is out of style, quit trying to squeeze all the juice out of the lemon and give back to the employees. It's only a matter of time before the quality people realize the grass actually is greener on the other side. Cut the BS, you can follow corporate guidelines but don't over do it with rules, regulations and micromanagement. Take off the plastic face masks and act like real people, nobody likes a plastic. Dump the mothballs and open the windows, let the place get some air. From an employee point of view, CP Management can only wish it had the employee respect it did 5 years ago.

    I worked at Colgate-Palmolive full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good Dental Benefits.
    Company Store.
    Few Good Co-workers. Summer hours.
    Meet Wall Street expectation.

    Cons

Great place to work. But has changed a lot in past few years.
Clueless Middle Managers without any technical or Management skills.
Fake or Completely non existence HR.. Your manager is HR and he dictates policies. Which are based upon liking. 3rd party Mirco runs the business ( kickbacks). ESC is completely unethical department. All CP principles like Valuing CP, MWR are violated. If you complain you'r are pretty much done. Your career is at dead end.
3rd party does all good project work. You are stuck with all garbage work. No DR planning.. Good Luck if something goes really wrong in Pisct.. You better sell your stock! Director is completely clueless from old school .Doesn't even know how to spell IT... Out of 12 months 7 months he is travelling.. You only hear him when there is production machine downtime as his bonus is tied.. Otherwise he has no interest to listen to you..
Lack of training. Blame games. No leadership skills. Complete Chaos place for real techies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of middle managers.. will save company lot of money. They are useless. Look at your DR..
You will never recover.. Good Luck! Give to IBM.

    Pros

Knowledgable CPG company, stock price reflects effeciency and growth, fair time-off policies including Summer Fridays, very much interpersonal

    Cons

Highly political, slow moving, bad at recognizing young talent

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to recognize your best entry level talent and then reward and grow them. The HR department at Colgate is very weak.
