  1. Great place for student workers

I worked at College of Lake County part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Most jobs available for students at the College of Lake County are flexible and accommodating. CLC gives students an opportunity to gain job experience while attending school full- or part-time.

    Cons

CLC was undergoing a lot of changes just before I left; they were eliminating positions within the college that were no longer deemed necessary. However, I don't think this had any effect on student employment.

    Advice to Management

Hire students with some prior job experience.

    Pros

Great benefits - medical, free tuition pension. The staff are generally professional and cooperative.

    Cons

Budget cuts and an overzealous administration with their own agendas make the atmosphere tense and keeps morale low with staff. While many staff members are not happy with the current situation, many of us also remain hopeful that the future looks good.

    Advice to Management

No point - "management" aka Administration does not listen to staff.

    Pros

Benefits are great. Medical, Dental, SURS, etc.

    Cons

Ed Affairs is very political. I agree with another post. Faculty leads all decision making. Budget cuts make it even uglier. No way to get promotions. No way to keep jobs if you make a little more then CLC average.

    Advice to Management

Management does not take any advises from non-faculty anyway... Only faculty can get them because of union.

    Pros

state benefits, can't go wrong with that

    Cons

Administrative Affairs Department is very political. Getting thrown under the bus is a regular occurrence.

    Advice to Management

Some directors need to learn how to treat people like human beings.

  8. I have been teaching at CLC for 2 years. The college is fully committed to furthering the education of all who attend.

    Pros

There was a lot of information to learn, and courses to take, but in the end it was good for me.

    Cons

The major issue, given I was the treasurer of the Student of paralegals is that there was no mentor for any of us at our internships. I felt that this did not go well for many of us. In the Professional Paralegal by Charlsye Smith Diaz and Vicki Voisin it is highly pointed out how important this is in the Paralegal profession.

    Advice to Management

Provide you people with guidance and help in the first several months. Then help them to grow and succeed/

    Pros

student body is diversified, but staff is not. Most are old-school folks that only consult amongst themselves.

    Cons

Low salaries, lack of communication, and not a very competitive environment to stirr up growth.

    Advice to Management

Higher younger and more tech-friendly personnel.
