I have been working at College of Saint Benedict full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The College of St. Benedict and St. John's University in Minnesota is a wonderful place to teach. I have met some of the best, most intelligent, and most ethically/politically engaged students at this school. Not all students are like this, but within just a few weeks teaching here I felt part of a community.

    Cons

Like other private liberal arts schools, CSB/SJU was not able to retain adjunct/visiting faculty. The school is also located in the middle of snow-swept prairies, about 80 minutes from Minneapolis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to seek out excellent faculty.

I worked at College of Saint Benedict part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It is a caring environment where there is a work/life balance. The students are wonderful and management is extremely passionate about helping employees grow to their fullest potential.

    Cons

There is a sense of strong conservatism based on the college's religious affiliation and it may be difficult to get new ideas moving fast. Yet at the same time the affiliation establishes a strong moral and ethical work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the amazing job.

I worked at College of Saint Benedict part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Many jobs for students to choose from, pays more than minimum wage. Easy to change jobs from year to year. Some full-time student jobs are available in the summer.

    Cons

Most first-year students have to start in a less desirable job (e.g. food service). Students can't work more than 12 hours per week during the school year.

I have been working at College of Saint Benedict

    Pros

The campus is beautiful and the administration is competent.
The faculty and staff are amiable and the students are friendly.

    Cons

Some people might be turned off by the lack of direction.
There have recently been a few budget cuts, as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

While the residential life department already fits this criteria, most of the administration could benefit from some younger staff to bring fresh perspectives

I worked at College of Saint Benedict part-time

    Pros

The physical plant was a great place to work. There is a real sense of family there. Other job areas are not bad either, considering the pay is usually quite decent and the schedules are good for students. Summer jobs on campus are also quite laid-back while giving you important job experience.

    Cons

Some of the more desireable jobs are taken up by returning students, so don't be surprised if you get stuck in something not so spectacular your first year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep it up.
