I worked at Color Kinetics full-time

    Pros

Creative feel, game tables, fruit, snacks, and soda. production based results. lots of diversity. Company events that support team work. Lots of Charity opportunities as well. Your own cubical/desk to work with. Some opportunity to work from home as well.

    Cons

Because it is an international company, they hire foreign workers and promote them to management levels, even if they have no real people skills. This can result in a work-place bully hiding in the management ranks. I know myself have come across a very unprofessional one. They also hire many temps so you never know who you'll be working with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more employees, less contractors. Give your management training on how to treat people. I am all for diversity but honestly, the management team should be Americans familiar with employment laws and how to treat people. The company itself is relaxed and creative to promote results but, there are certain departments that have a culture of bullying and isolation perpetuated by management, negating that relaxed feel and making it very stressful.

    Pros

Really interesting product, and constantly working on exciting projects. Solid benefits, decent pay, room for growth.

    Cons

Location was great prior to move to Burlington. Being in downtown Boston gave the organization a cutting edge feel, and was a huge benefit to the majority of employees. Once purchased by Philips, CK lost much of its entrepreneurial spirit, and more resembled a typical cubicle farm that the exciting start-up it once was. Discrediting to see so much of senior leadership team jump ship so shortly after acquisition. This naturally hurt employee morale, and has lead to much higher turnover.

    I worked at Color Kinetics

    Pros

Its a growing company, and if you are positioned in the right department, there are opportunities to advance your career. Its a company that is the leader in its field, and not only believes in, but builds energy efficient, and eco -friendly products. As such it has a secure future, and a secure market share.

    Cons

It is a newly formed company, as it is the result of the purchase of Color Kinetics by Royal Philips. As such, there is very much a small company mentality, meaning the framework upon which it operates is weak. Existing management have a small company mentality and methodology. There are a number of people working in key roles who have been there for some time, and are now hindering the growth of the company because they are set in their ways and resistant to change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The number one comment is to Train your managers. People have been promoted because of their length and quality of service. However, that criteria doesn't necessarily make them good managers. There is a huge lack of professional management. The second comment is to make managers accountable. There is no structure for accountability of anyone. There are little consequences if a task is not completed.
