Former Employee – worked at Color Kinetics
Pros – Really interesting product, and constantly working on exciting projects. Solid benefits, decent pay, room for growth.
Cons – Location was great prior to move to Burlington. Being in downtown Boston gave the organization a cutting edge feel, and was a huge benefit to the majority of employees. Once purchased by Philips, CK lost much of its entrepreneurial spirit, and more resembled a typical cubicle farm that the exciting start-up it once was. Discrediting to see so much of senior leadership team jump ship so shortly after acquisition. This naturally hurt employee morale, and has lead to much higher turnover.
Advice to Senior Management – Stick around.

Former Employee – worked at Color Kinetics
Pros – Its a growing company, and if you are positioned in the right department, there are opportunities to advance your career. Its a company that is the leader in its field, and not only believes in, but builds energy efficient, and eco -friendly products. As such it has a secure future, and a secure market share.
Cons – It is a newly formed company, as it is the result of the purchase of Color Kinetics by Royal Philips. As such, there is very much a small company mentality, meaning the framework upon which it operates is weak. Existing management have a small company mentality and methodology. There are a number of people working in key roles who have been there for some time, and are now hindering the growth of the company because they are set in their ways and resistant to change.
Advice to Senior Management – The number one comment is to Train your managers. People have been promoted because of their length and quality of service. However, that criteria doesn't necessarily make them good managers. There is a huge lack of professional management. The second comment is to make managers accountable. There is no structure for accountability of anyone. There are little consequences if a task is not completed.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
