    Pros

    The company has made significant improvements at the leadership level. These changes have resulted in improved customer satisfaction and a product that is much more stable. There is greater transparency and cohesion among teams.

    Cons

    CCI is still working to recover from several years of hardship. With any challenge there is room for immense opportunity.

    Advice to Management

    Continue to communicate effectively with your people. Change is never easy but the changes made at the management level have paid off.

    Pros

    The work was really challenging so the days went by fast. Cool software product design. Smart people to work with.

    Cons

    Unrealistic promises--in terms of schedule and functionality--made to customers by management, which put the staff in an uncomfortable position when dealing with the customers. Insufficient funds to meet payroll. Management unresponsive to staff concerns.

    Advice to Management

    Don't promise the moon the moon and deliver a cow pie instead.

    Pros

    Good people, hard working. I think the CEO is a good person and doing her best.

    Cons

    Things fell apart. Software delivery model (the way we make money) was not realistic enough. Big customers able to hold company hostage with endless requirements changes.

    Advice to Management

    Use a professional services model. Sell the software for half price. Charge consulting fees for support and customization.

    Pros

    Great coworkers. Great clients. Software is beautiful and customizable, especially compared to competitor products. Fexiblilty for personal issues (e.g. working from home or adjusting scheduled hours).

    Cons

    Atmosphere of fire fighting instead of following better development practices. Bad communication skills between client side management and development.

    Advice to Management

    More transparency with staff on what is going on. Have a stronger backbone with clients - although it is probably too late now.

    Pros

    Great employees, flexible hours, nice building, interesting work (most of the time).

    Cons

    Poor leadership, poor communication, unrealistic promises to customers, hurry and wait attitude. Don't know who wrote “Great Changes Made in Past 12 Months”, but they were very misled or trying to mislead. 10% layoff in May 2012 (11-12 employees), two "furloughs" in April 2013 (42 employees)!

    Advice to Management

    Be honest and forthright with customers and employees. Don't let them paint you in a corner. Don't make promises your employees (unknowingly) can't keep. Lori and the leadership team are all great people. It just appears they lost their way somehow. I truly hope it is not to late to bounce back.

    Great atmosphere. Beautiful office. Beautiful women.

    Beautiful women. Breach-of-contract law suits.

    Advice to Management

    Have parachutes ready. Sounds like current customers are backing out in rapid fire. Start being honest with your (few remaining) employees.

    There are some good people that work there

    Bad decisions made by management have caused the demise of the company. It is a fast sinking ship with no potential for the future. Breach of contract claimed by multiple counties, employees not paid full pay checks because they don't have the money for their entire payroll, over 47 employees laid off in April 2013, promises made and not kept to clients....should I go on?

    Advice to Management

    Start being honest with your employees and clients. Too many promises made and are not kept. This company is failing and needs to admit to their mistakes and problems

    Pros

    Wonderful, smart, caring employees. Great environment. Flexibly working hours.

    Cons

    Lack of communication with both employees and customers. Difficulty meeting commitments. Poor management. Difficulty making payroll-splitting pay checks into two payments with short notice to employees. Poor health insurance benefits.

    Advice to Management

    If it's too late to save the company, be honest with the remaining employees and the existing clients about the state of the company. Thanks for letting me be a part of the CCI during the good times. Good luck.

    Pros

    Fellow developers are talented and a pleasure to work with.

    Cons

    Such poor leadership decisions has cost the company their 2 partners and in state counties. Management lack of leadership has resulted in the need to lay off 10% of their workforce. After the layoff they had a celebration of 10 year anniversaries at the staff meeting. No regard for their customer base. No room for growth. Poor benefits. Unable to make payroll.

    Advice to Management

    Learn from your past. You lost Boulder and are in the process of losing Larimer County. Stop putting the same people in charge.

    Pros

    Great people work there! Genuinely friendly, smart and caring.
    Good work life balance. Easy to work from home if you have a sick child or an appointment with a repairman, although the general policy is no telecommuting.
    A great product for their niche market compared to their competitors.
    The company is willing to change process and organizational structure to improve quality. Even relatively large change are implemented quickly with the attitude that if it doesn't work, they'll change it again. This is refreshing when coming from a traditional government or large corporate culture.

    Cons

    In their recent growth they've lost a lot of the small company culture. In particular, HR policies are now implemented "by the book" without regard to the individual. It seems the risk of "liability" is now more important than the culture.
    There is a often a lack of accountability internally when commitments are not met. This can put the customer facing teams in a difficult position.
    They have another challenging 12 months ahead to really catch up from the growth..

    Advice to Management

    There are disadvantages to working for small companies; lower salaries, resource and cash flow challenges, lack of opportunity for advancement, etc. The advantages of the small company are a) working with a higher percentage of top notch talent, b) the ability to change things that don't work, c) the personal culture of not just being a cog in the machine. Colorado Customware does great job at the first two, but is losing ground on the culture.
