    Pros

Great benefits that's all what's left . Can't really say anything else positive. It was a great company to work for.

    Cons

To many "managers". Hours for "work from home" need to be looked at.Staff moral at all time low.

Chaotic, dysfunctional and political company trying to do everything at the same time. Not one for the fainthearted.

I have been working at Colt Technology Services full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good recruitment service.
    Market salary.
Good pension - up to 12% employer contribution.
    Great network of data centres.
    Great spread of companies.
Open door culture and senior management are very approachable.
Good place to learn about the products and the industry.
Not a demanding employer and a good respect for work/life balance.

    Cons

The benefits of the company are let down by the political culture. The average day is broken down into 70% politics and 30% work. It is very hard to achieve anything. There is a huge blame culture so decision makers become ineffective. Constant chaos and always something going wrong. Management are ineffective at making decisions and need lots of convincing.

Constant reorganisation. Three major reorganisation in 3.5 years, expect redundancies just before christmas. Very unsettled and always waiting for the end of a project or beginning of a project before investing/resourcing.
Still behaves like a startup trying to be a mature company.

You have to be very tough on the inside but appear soft on the outside to survive here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stamp out the politics. More diversity on the ExCo.

I have been working at Colt Technology Services full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary- highly competitive; Private Health, Shopping Discounts & Vouchers.
Environment and values-highly competitive internal environment and highly political. Keep head down and do not rock the boat mentality.

    Cons

To exhausted to use the private health, gym, bike discount and vouchers.
Micro management, Haphazard marketing, portfolio & product road map planning.
Senior Management making up new products without proper investigating and research just because Gartner said our competitors are providing specific unprofitable offerings.
Ad Hoc Leadership and People Management.
Slow, lack of structure and not using latest methodologies like Agile etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Re-org Great.
The new vertical org map was done 6 -8yrs ago in other organisations and were not successful in driving growth or profit (or as some call it OPEX/CAPEX).Not sure why it feels like a start up when we don't even have Scrum Masters. If it is such a great company why is it hard to retain good employees and why are key team members or departments have such high record of ''long term sickness''. Very masculine, mascho. Chauvinistic, environment. Cannot measure internal marketing with Telefonica/ BT

    Pros

    Nice people.
    Opportunity of career progress

    Cons

    Information is going anywhere
There are too many things and no focus on any single one

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should focus more on their employees and less on creating new projects where spent the money

I have been working at Colt Technology Services full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Excellent benefits package
Still making a profit even in the current recession and difficult trading conditions
Solid product base and always looking to use new technology, aims to keep ahaed of the competition
Many long term workers who still give a high level of commitment

    Cons

Too busy being dictated to by the stock market
Aiming to grow too fast when the market isn't there to support it
Thinks that cutting costs year on year, including staff, is the answer to achieving the growth, can't seem to grasp that staff at the botom end are required to deliver the service.
Keeps changing organisational structure when things aren't working out, far too many changes over the last 5 years.
Too many managers and executives for the number of frontline workers bringing in the revenue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please sit back and think hard about what you have done in the last 5 years, some changes were necessary but now you seem to change the structure for no sensible reason other than just to try something different.
You still employ far to many senior staff on high salaries, you seem to have a weak philosophy for managers know best, when other can quite adequately do the job.

I worked at Colt Technology Services as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good team to work with, interesting work particularly with their implementation of changing product lines.

    Cons

Implementation of projects with target deadlines had to commence with incomplete technical specifications and incomplete detail drawings and inaccurate loose budget costs.

I have been working at Colt Technology Services full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    A comprehensive remuneration package.
I work with some very talented people.
    A pretty good training programme.
Really can't think of anything else positive.

    Cons

    Fractured/Disjointed/Siloed business units

Politics - not only do business units score points off one another, but some VPs will score points off other VPs within the same business unit!

Middle management - real world examples of the 'Peter Principle'

    Poor communication abilities - generally

Cronyism - as other reviews; favourtism is rife. Promotion is often based on longevity of services rather than ability [in other organisations, 10 years service at the same grade would be seen as 'institutionalisation' or lack of ambition.

Rigid mindset - forged by the institutionalised and the tendency to recruit from BT and Fidelity/Devonshire/KVH. Relatively low turn-over of staff, but those who move on tend to have experience of other technology companies and have questioned the glaringly 'questionable'.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think the management may be the biggest part of the problem.

The last 16 quarters performance somewhat speaks for itself.

Look at the product offering - how can Colt's competitors; many of those using Colt as a carrier; have an offering which is perceived as superior within the marketplace?

Convergence is a big buzz word in the industry. Look up what it means - the fractured nature of business units and school playground type politics; as alluded to above; can only impact negatively.

When you recruit from outside the normal Colt pool - listen to these people and try and embrace what is going on outside of the bubble - this might give insight into why competitors are performing better than you.

One of the worst places I have ever worked

Former Employee - Storage Engineer in London, England (UK)
Former Employee - Storage Engineer in London, England (UK)

I worked at Colt Technology Services full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

My team mates and a few other key people who cared even about their work and the business.
Work/Life balance was good as you weren't allowed to do any work at all.

    Cons

Different teams were made redundant eventually and replaced with staff in the 'India academy', members of staff we were working in India tended to spend a few months learning as much as they could and then would move to a better paid position elsewhere or move to the UK.

Middle management were the worst I have seen in the Industry, complete lack of communication and the politics games they played neglected every single other team in the company.
According to HR words it took months to fill the position I joined, only to not be allowed to make any improvements to the infrastructure due to heavy politicised 'silos'

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the staff, not your middle management but the people who were actually the core of your business.
