    Pros

Lots of quality training and opportunities to grow/develop.

    Cons

Taking days off was often a challenge because the schedule was made so far in advance.

    Advice to Management

Management was very intimidating at first but once you get to know them, they're very warm, friendly and extremely helpful!

    Pros

CA offers intense training that will serve you not only at the work place, but in many general life circumstances. They focus highly on customer satisfaction, professionalism, and having friendly, competent staff members. Also, with their 3 locations, 23 outdoor pools, golf courses, skating rinks, batting cages, and indoor water park, there is space for every type of person at Columbia Association.

    Cons

I understand that "the customer is always right", but sometimes the customer is completely wrong. CA should let their staff stand up for themselves a little more.

    Advice to Management

Overall, great place to work. Management is always attentive and extremely competent.

    Pros

OK if you are school age looking to make a few dollars on your way to something better, or retirement age looking to fill some time with something socially engaging. Otherwise, what are you doing here?

    Cons

A quasi-government service organization, mind-numbingly bureaucratic (10 minutes of business packed into 2-hour meetings are a specialty), with of small number of self-important peter-principled full-time staff that sit around churning out directives, mandates, and warnings to the vast majority of the Association's employees, who labor in temporary, part-time, seasonal, low-wage, low-skill or no-skill, dead-end positions.

    Advice to Management

Resist the urge to treat the majority of your employees as human commodities, and try every once in a while to have a real two-way conversation with those on the front lines of your organization. You just might learn something.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, fantastic benefits, 401k, vacation/sick/holiday/personal time for full time and vacation/sick for part time, cell phone and driving reimbursement, gym memberships, fitness and health programming.

    Cons

Lower salaries vs. competitors, can be an extremely demanding organization as CA constantly is competing and striving to be the leader and cutting edge.

    Advice to Management

Advice for Management - If CA would pay it's entry and mid level management a more respectable salary, the organization could attract top quality talent. By doing so, it would definitely benefit the organization as CA is going through some major changes. Having young top talent would benefit this organization, but CA needs to provide more competitive financial compensation.

There are a lot of people at the pool, so it is a great place to socialize and help out the community.

    Cons

Drama and bad thoughts about other lifeguards can arise when something happens or something goes wrong.
