    Pros

Great work life balance with the ability to work from home. The company also pays for a majority of an employees certifications on Microsoft technologies. However, the financial reward for these additional certifications varies. As a member of Microsoft's "inner circle," Columbus has substantial credibility to leverage with current and potential customers.

    Cons

There is no formal training program. Instead there is a "learn by trial and error" structure in terms of development. Ultimately, there are no clear career paths and instead employees change titles, but keep the same essential responsibilities. Overall, Columbus is a very flat organization. What you are hired in as, is generally where you will remain.

    Pros

Really good company with solid leadership. You will be given the chance to excel and move up the ladder, if you show initiative.

    Cons

Sometimes the little things falls through the cracks. It does not matter in the big picture, but sometimes it does affect the individual.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure to also focus on the small things, which makes a difference for the individual.

    Pros

    1. HR Rules are quite employee friendly.
    2. Projects are good, working is fun. Friendly environment.
    3. Managers are friendly. Not the bossy types.

    Cons

    1. HR rules which are friendly are sometimes misused. Each of them has different set of rules.
    2. People are dealt on the need basis. More the need, more required you in the organization and more can be your hike and thus the promotions as well. Once done with the resource not even iota attention will be paid.
    3. HR must be changed. Spineless HR. Basics of HR are not followed while dealing with people.
    4. Full and Final settlement is a pain. Join if you want to stay back there permanently.
    5. Not much of Work/Life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change your HR and the Finance team. Bring in people who are driven and drive people to work. Most of the employees have left the company due to lack of guidance from the top.

    Pros

the exceptional talent of co-workers, bar none the best in the biz. Very flexible within virtual work environment. Excellent benefits. Great potential.

    Cons

Very little to non-existent recognition and appreciation in the form of non-compensation terms. e.g. large bonuses or salary doesn't show appreciation and recognition. Lack of follow through on strategy, good ideas but little action, very reactionary, repeats same mistakes, lack of focus on assets within org who are NOT on the direct revenue generator list, poor communication and consistency among leaders when applying policy. Seems like not everyone is on the same page.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen. Solicit feedback and listen. try implementing ideas from other employees. Create a clear picture of how goals can be achieved and consistently apply top down with all leaders on the same page. Focus more on soft skills and culture. Work more on appreciation and recognition.

Former Employee - Business Consultant in Copenhagen (Denmark)

    Pros

Good atmosphere, effort towards optimising the organisation, verticals (one at least), flat structure, relaxed culture, good colleagues, renewed focus on strategy.

    Cons

Lack of focus and clear product strategy, low pay, lack of sales, to few large clients, lack of international clients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Establish a clear strategy for the products, clients and employees, off course considering the competition. Which customers do we want(size, business and international presence) and what is the fit of our current products and the employees and/or how do we best get the fit . Basically SWOT it all and check with those empoyees who are experienced in the market before laying out a grand scheme 'cause this is often the biggest mistake.

A suggestion for the best place to start: Knowledge management, best practices, packaged products/modules, Practical Problem Solving Competence standards, Product Specific Project Methods - these words do not exist in the great IT-Business Dictionary and this is excactly why those who introduce them and put action behind them will run off with a large competitive advantage....
