    Pros

Exceptional training on SAP EPM. You can benefit from hundreds of collective hours of insider type training that you would never get from a general EPM type class or webinar.

Highly unique organization model allows for easy and sometimes rapid transfer from job sites.

Passionate C-Level that encourages you to constantly improve and will be well rewarded for it.

You could be extremely successful if you focus on your tasks and clients.

Promote from within the SAP EPM community so everyone is an expert level or higher. This is not a novice type organization

    Cons

From the very moment you begin work until the very moment you leave your brain is always on. This is not necessarily a negative but it is a major requirement to work at Column5.

If you work in their main HQ in Scottsdale do not anticipate a 'lunch break' as everyone from the CEO to IT to Accounting eats at their desk. I found this particularly difficult to deal with since there is no break unless you smoke. It is just a constant thumping all day.

HQ management requires perfection. This is not a career for the weak or slow. You will get run over quickly and there are always more people willing to take your place.

Do not expect a pat on the back. It is more likely you will get told what you did wrong than what you did right. If you dislike stress than do not work at Column5.

Unless you are a C-Level do not anticipate that your opinions/suggestions will be listened to let alone be implemented. Your job is to make them look better to the clients and SAP, not for you to grow in their company. Always remember you are an employee not a stakeholder. Regardless of whether it is your client or your project, you exist for them.

Be extremely careful what you are signing up to do. Make sure your job duties and job expectations match. Don't sign anything that includes a broad overview of duties.

This organization does not encourage inter-office connections. While they do cupcakes for birthdays it is a rarity that anyone will ask about your time off work, your family, your dog or any personal aspect of your life. There is no "Hey did you see that show last night?". When you are on their clock it is 100% or nothing.

A consultant came into town and spent 2 nights in his hotel room doing absolutely nothing because no one said "hey I know you are new in town, you want to get a drink". If you seek this level of personal attention this organization is not for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I am not anti-Column5 at all. You are the best at what you do. Sometimes you forget that the employees/consultants make you the best. From C-Level down there is passion beyond anything I have known. A pat on the back goes a long way toward employee satisfaction. Being told how wrong I was over and over and over just made me not want to be there anymore. I could have been at Column5 permanently if I wasnt so demoralized about going to work every day. It is a real shame when some management focuses so heavily on their career they forget that other people have lives. Take off the blinders and be just a little bit more friendly and watch people give you another gear of energy without resentment.

    Pros

If you are a hard worker and willing to learn, you can be very successful there. The pay is great and there are many opportunities to learn new skills. Management does a great job of informing every one of the go forward plan and what is happening now. The people that don’t pull their own weight are let go unlike other places like SAP where if you can’t do the job, you can hide.

    Cons

Not many CONS unless you’re a slacker and can’t pull your own weight.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work, and don't listen to the disgruntled employees it is a great place to work.

    Pros

Column5 makes investments in EPM and SAP software-based solutions in order to enhance and bridge gaps that add value to each implementation. The company is still relatively small, and leadership as well as consultants pride themselves on being part of the best, most talented group of individuals on the planet.

    Cons

Recent attrition and woes from growing too fast have turned some people off, as evidenced by some of the reviews of ex-employees in the last year or so. Some of them had great points, and Column5 has incorporated some changes to not repeat past mistakes. The company has bounced back stronger since then, and continues to show its strength in the EPM space, as highlighted by many strong referrals, successful EPM implementations, and high employee morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to invest in your employees, partners and clients, and enjoy a bright future.

I have been working at Column5 Consulting

    Pros

-Column5 has a handful of very solid BPC consultants.

    Cons

-Lack of Management involvement. Some consultants have never spoken to their manager. The Central Region has not had a manager for almost two years.
-Huge amount of turnover...turning into a consulting mill.
-Company is in financial trouble and has major cash flow issues--they barely make payroll each month. Pay structure is very commission heavy and one month C5 could not afford to pay out commissions and had to delay payment to their consultants.
-Company is very weak on NW consultants. They outsource almost all of the BADI work. However, their contractors are quitting because they can't afford to pay them on time.
-They call themselves an EPM leader which is a complete joke. They only have one BI consultant on staff and no active projects.
-Communication is terrible. No one is ever aware of what is going on and managers are never on the same page.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest and care about your consultants--they are all you have!

I have been working at Column5 Consulting full-time

    Pros

Column5 has a very entrepreneurial culture. I believe this works well for some people who seek to be rewarded for hard work that clients like.
There is strong support for consultants...not left on projects alone to figure things out. Always somewhere to turn, and someone to call.
Projects are appropriately sold, where expectations can be met, unlike other places I have worked where there is pressure to deliver impossible objectives. Projects not doomed from start here.
Vision for where company wants to be is impressive, and I see signs of movement in right direction.
Compensation is on higher end of scale.

    Cons

Entrepreneurial culture is not a fit for everyone, weak consultants struggle to last long in this environment. Good for customers, but not a good place to learn how to be a consultant from scratch...a lot is expected of the people here. This pressure to perform contributes to turnover among less experienced ranks. (seems like previous posters are in this category).
Travel - hit or miss, depending on the projects you get, could be traveling up to 100%.
Comp plan is unusual, doesn't work for everyone...works well for me, but I hear the less experienced guys grumble. (you know that struggling team members are not going to be hanging out for long, either management will zero in on them, or they will leave due to compensation concerns)
Company is virtual with resources located around the world. There are calls and communications sent out, but I wish employees could get together more often.
Still small company in some respects, as long as I have been there, there have been many signs of growth, but always room for improvement with better processes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get employees together more in larger groups, more raises :-)

It's a good company, probably best in their space, but continue to work on processes to enhance maturity.

BPC consulting mill with siloed management structure

    I worked at Column5 Consulting

    Pros

There are some very talented individuals at Column5 that make it successful and enable its continued penetration of the EPM market.

    Cons

Column5 is a BPC consulting mill that inaccurately broadcasts itself as a "business analytics" solution provider. While the firm states that it seeks to address the SAP business analytics space at large, all of its internal efforts are focused on BPC.

Some managers within Column5 have the personal finesse to manage people, but most do not. Some management channels lack professionalism in managing resources, a trait that contributes to attrition.

As noted by a previous reviewer, Column5 immediately terminates employees upon notice of resignation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company needs to overhaul its management structure at all levels or, as a previous reviewer noted, divest to another firm.

One Trick Pony with High Attrition

    Current Employee - Consultant
    Current Employee - Consultant

I have been working at Column5 Consulting

    Pros

If your goal is to become an expert on the BPC tool for Microsoft platform then this a place for you.

    Cons

    - Very high attrition rate (management does a good job of sweeping this under the rug)
    - BPC centric culture with no understanding of management consulting best practices
    - No defined internal business processes
    - Below average client delivery support processes (HR, IT, PMO)
    - Unyielding loyalty and favoritism shown to a select few despite lack of performance
    - Severely disjointed client delivery teams with zero communication across multi-solution teams
    - Polarizing CEO who ultimately makes decisions based on his own gut feel, in spite of compelling evidenece
    - Falling behind in BPC for Netweaver expertise to other firms

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Divest to a mature consulting firm or come to the realization that the company will always be a small, niche BPC player
