I have been working at Colwen Hotel Management full-time

    Pros

Cares about employees and will work with GMs to ensure success. Top management is often involved at the property level.

    Cons

Too much into office politics. Some awful have been promoted to positions they should not be holding.

    Advice to Management

Start promoting people who deserve it. There are a lot of General Managers waiting for a better opportunity, but the company keeps on protecting Waterford staff (Waterford gang as they are known).

I worked at Colwen Hotel Management full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are many wonderful people that made work great when they actually care about doing their job. Hotel discounts are great. PTO was also good and getting time off was typically never an issue. Putting smiles on guests faces was always rewarding, especially when building camaraderie with repeat customers.

    Cons

Very sketchy policies. You really get the feeling that you are working your tail off for absolutely no reason sometimes and get nothing to show for it. Staffing was always an issue. Half the employees are so disenfranchised that they just don't care and are not held accountable. It's hard to keep employees when you are running on the bare minimum, and guests DO notice. Complaints typically fell on deaf ears and even if you had a manager that did care, they usually could not do anything to rectify the situations because someone above them would make it impossible to. Many employees would barely make enough to break bread meanwhile they are cutting back hours or not replacing staff that have quit so the big wigs can line their pockets with bonuses. Morale was constantly in the gutter. They expect you to work crazy hours and have absolutely no qualms about not paying you for time you have worked. Truly sickening to behold.

    Advice to Management

Don't just stare at your computer screen when your employees are attempting to communicate their concerns to you. Hold people accountable for not doing their job. Promote people from within who work hard and communicate a desire for more, or you will continue you lose good employees. Don't treat people like they are expendable, your business would not function without the people that are overlooked the most. At least pretend to not be soulless drones who are only focused on the bottom line, you have employees that are on government assistance for crying out loud.

I worked at Colwen Hotel Management full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Corporate directors and executives know their stuff, consistently builds and brands successful properties & growing rapidly, great benefits & hotel discounts, very brand oriented hotel management, good work/life balance for the hotel industry, higher than normal PTO accrual and ability to use it.

    Cons

Action not taken when employee concerns surfaced regarding management, pay lower than comp set, lower-level managers/ supervisors are overlooked for promotion & external hiring seems to be prominent.

    Advice to Management

Focus on promoting from within to retain key employees at each property, GM's should focus more time on training and promoting current employees, monthly all-staff meetings, employee engagement surveys to gauge property management

    Pros

Some of the properties are nice to work in

    Cons

Too many to list all but being asked to work for no pay stands out as a big con as well as a complete lack of caring for the employees by managers. And employees are frequently lied to.

    Advice to Management

    like that would matter...

    Pros

Hotel discount; that is the only "pro"!

    Cons

Pay is low compared to the competition, ridiculous expectations (must be at hotel by 7:30AM 6 days a week). Seriously, pay is already low AND I need to be there 6 days a week, EVERY week? You need to disclose that in the interviewing process.

    Advice to Management

If someone has been a GM prior to working for you, they know how/when to work. The outrageous amounts of paperwork, correct form in this binder, correct paperwork in that binder, etc is just ridiculous. The amount of time spent on this that SHOULD be spent with associates and guests is high.

I have been working at Colwen Hotel Management part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Managers often do seem to get promoted and there are ample quality low-level employees that make this company work.

    Cons

Certainly a lack of upward mobility and an inability to recognize talent on the ground floor. Their solution to most issues is hiring managers, not addressing the problem, and most managers are incompetent.

    Advice to Management

Be smarter about hiring. Pay good workers more.

I worked at Colwen Hotel Management full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They offered discounted rooms for employees and it is always satisfying to get good personal reviews from guests on Trip Adviser.

    Cons

The management has know idea how to run day to day operations and are not helpful in answering basic questions like, " How do I check someone in"? Good luck trying to get a day off. Colwen Management is too young of a company and they haven't gotten it right yet like the Procaccianti Group.

    Advice to Management

Step outside your office for 10 minutes a day and learn how to check someone in/out.
