I have been working at Comau full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

good company, good employee. good upper management

    Cons

Italy entrusting USA management with NO management experience or education background.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure the middle and lower management has the adequate credentials to lead their department.
A minimum of a bachelor degree is a must and is a part of the discipline of a global company

I worked at Comau full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good Benefit's package and Time Off

    Cons

Work a lot of hours, high stress, treat salaried employees like hourly in that they watch your hours and expect you to clock in and out. Managers are not educated and are basically managers because they have been with the company for years not becuase they are managers. Good luck getting a raise, they only give you money if you threaten to leave. There is no annual review process and no annual reward for doing a good job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Read the above and understand that there is no motivation to remain working hard. Overworked people with no annual pay review, constant turn over and no leadership means a definite failure.

I worked at Comau full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Depending on your negotiating skills, base entry salary can be average to good. Base benefits are middle of the road, but don't expect anything in excess.

    Cons

There is zero sense of accomplishment, every department is understaffed, asking for a raise is frowned upon (seems like raises are only handed out when you put a two week notice in), and US upper management seems not to have any authority.

Procedures are set in place but employees do not have the training, time, and resources to be compliant. Management knows procedures are not followed and seem not to care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Staff appropriately, fix current systems, and have realistic expectations.

I have been working at Comau full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Flexible work schedule and hours; very limited contact with management; no one standing over your shoulder. Can be good, usually is a bad thing. If it is not done Italy's way its not done right. Never question the way that the higher ups want it done, even when you consider it to be elementary and lacking details.

    Cons

Poor pay, poor advancement, lack of employee development. (though they claim to pride themselves on it). Very few people internally that have anything good to say about the last 25 years of their employment. Usually a lot of moving positions and trying to keep people doing a "sheep" type job for as long as possible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Become more involved with your employees if you are going to claim to have that as one of your pillars. Management should stop being weak and define what is going on here in the US to the higher ups. Instead of just jumping on the bandwagon and following the ship to the bottom of the sea.

I worked at Comau full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good people who know what they are doing.

    Cons

Managers have no idea how to manage, they are promoted because they have been with the company for a while. HR is a puppet to Italy and has no say. Heavy turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get organized and realize why so many people leave.

I worked at Comau (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Regional CEO is a fantastic man, but his hands are tied, much like every one elses.

    Cons

Compensation philisophy is terrible, no raises, no room for growth, no opportunity. This company makes you wait years before you get a merit increase.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open your eyes and speak up, something needs to happen as people are leaving for competitors and word on the street is you are not a good place to work. There is no reward for hard work and dedication

I worked at Comau full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Comau offered an excellent base salary and good benefits. There are a lot of tireless rank and file workers who will go the extra mile to get things to the customer.

    Cons

Near total absence of costing and expense tracking processes. Comau has a decent Project Management system, however it is not well socialized within the company or employed by management. Very much a "blame down" culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Program and Project Managers should spend more time with their Integrated Project Teams to monitor and drive execution. PMs just expect "things will happen" and then go into fire-drill mode halfway through.

    Pros

decent pay, global presence, somewhat secure now being partenered with fiat/chrysler

    Cons

management is horrible, if your italian your automatically promoted if not well... not so much. HR is a joke, i was threatened by my supervisor for suggesting another solution to a problem, and was let go a week before xmas. i have worked with leaders in this field for a decade and have never worked for a less respecful company.

What a strange place to work, strange "leadership", strange people

I have been working at Comau full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Salaries are above average. Little to no supervision (can be good but can be also bad).

    Cons

There's little to no leadership. Nobody appears to able to make a decision without getting the OK from someone in Italy. And those guys over there can make very strange decisions if they make any at all. Don't expect opposition even if everybody knows that the idea out of Italy will fail.

But having no leadership doesn't mean that there's no process. Matter of fact that is just getting a little out of hand. Same thing, everybody knows it but nobody will say anything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It' no secret that most Italians in higher positions see their US assignments as a temporary stunt until they get called back to the homeland for a nice corporate positions. And there's nothing wrong with that but imagine what impression you could make in Italy with mind-boggling financial numbers rather than just following the "lead from Italy". Many times their "lead" is wrong and everybody knows it. But don't expect your current manager to tell you that.
