Current Employee - Direct Sales Representative in Park Forest, IL

I have been working at Comcast

    Pros

There are lots of pros to the being a direct sales representative.
-You create your own plan and aren't being micromanaged.
-You have a base salary which is good because you will have slow days and then commissions are uncapped.
-Sales supervisors and coworkers are always willing to help you improve if you are struggling to make sales.
-You have benefits such as free cable, internet, health insurance and a bunch of others that you wouldn't expect.
-You get to pick what area you want to work in.
-You get a $300 monthly gas allowance.
-Training pay is higher than what you receive when you start in the field.
-You get a $200 allowance for comcast apparel.

    Cons

-You work in any type of weather. Make sure to layer up in the winter.
-You have to deal with a lot of rejection but don't take it personal. Some areas are harder to work in than others.
-When there's miscommunication in prices between the field techs, customer service and your customer, the customer may hold you accountable.
-You need to reach your bi weekly quota in order to receive full commission.
-Training is very long and boring. You also don't retain 90% of what they teach you in it. The pay is justifiable though.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure field techs know what the prices are for direct sales representatives so there's no confusion for them and the customer. Improve customer service so former customers don't refuse to switch back.

I have been working at Comcast full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Lots of room for personal and professional growth; someone who is motivated and ambitious can move up the ladder relatively quickly. Great atmosphere, good benefits.

    Cons

Salary is a bit lower than other companies; this leads to a relatively high turnover rate in some departments and leaves teams understaffed at times.

    Pros

Ok pay made $15.45hr after 6 months probation, there's always more then enough work to do and over time if you want. It's easy to move up as a tech just keep your performance up, if you do your job correctly supervisors will have your back ,quarterly bonuses $$ , company phone and you get to take your work truck home depending on where you work

    Cons

Rigorous work environment,be ready to work in all types of weather, and make sure to come in as a inhouse tech and not a contractor they get no respect

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dispatch makes the job harder then it should be for techs

I have been working at Comcast

    Pros

Good company with mostly friendly management. Good pay with lots of room for advancement and even a college reimbursement program if you want to do back to school. Training is provided and the work isn't to bad. In my market I get to take my own work vehicle home every day which is a HUGE perk for me to have.
Two weeks vacation a year to start and three weeks after five years with another two weeks roughly in holiday pay and flex time that you have the option to cash out at the end of the year. After my five year mark I can affectively take off one whole month paid vacation a year to go on a trip and I still have over a week vacation left to use. Decent benefits, 401K match to 4.5%, etc.

    Cons

Just like any big corporation it can get annoying to deal with the cooperate BS that is America these days. Comcast will do anything to keep a union away which not that they need it really but they could do alittle better in the salary department to stay competitive. The starting salary hasn't gone up since a couple of years before I started when minimum wage has gone up almost 5$ a hour.

    Pros

Solid financials, innovative, growing, modern, taking leadership role in connectivity

    Cons

Managed by numbers whether real or not. Activity metrics out of synch with reality to the market conditions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more reps the opportunity to succeed by right-sizing the headcount according to the opportunities available in any given geographic location. Adjust quota levels to industry norms.
