    Great Platform

RM - Commercial Banking (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsAbility to do deals, strong credit culture yet collaborative and persuadable. Merit based advancement opportunities. Lots of opportunities to grow within organization for driven people, particularly for those with marketing skills.

ConsNo BDOs so deal flow is dependent on the RMs and/or senior management. Pay is below industry averages as are bonuses, but that may be in exchange for having historically better than average work-life balance arrangements.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease incentive compensation, and change from annual to quarterly.

    Disappointing

    Management (Former Employee)
    Los Angeles, CA

    Pros- decent healthcare options
    - subsidized parking

Cons- good people continue to leave, leaving the mediocre employees
    - culture of shading and/or misrepresenting the truth
    - failure to address performance issues of mediocre employees
    - culture of management by threat
    - huge gaps in technology
    - ran like a union shop; management and employees
    - senior management rarely visible; surprising for a three state bank (can't really count AZ and FL)
    - promotions are based upon time at company; not ability
    - extremely spend thrift bank; to the point of ridiculous

Advice to Senior Management- senior management will need to make radical changes in the culture for the bank to survive
    - rid the bank of the union mentality of dealing with poor performance and promotion (runs like a car company); not surprising given it's roots
    - stop insulting the competition because they are winning employees and business

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Great for start-up experience. Horrible for long-term path

    Credit Analyst (Former Employee)

Pros- Friendly atmosphere. (Fun place to work).
    - Great training and exposure for Credit Anlysis/Underwriting.
    - Many different sectors to diversify training (Middle Market, Private Banking, Entertainment, Small Biz, Dealer, Mortgage Warehouse Lending, etc)
    - Good work/life balance.

Cons- Grossly underpaid. (One of the lowest paying banks, if not the lowest. It's highway robbery if you compare how much more other banks pay for similar positions. 10-25% more elswhere).
    - Very difficult to get promoted (A lot of politics, you have to put in more than the normal amount of time)
    - Company lacks appreciation for good employees. (You bust your but and go above and beyond, take extra courses, and still find yourself in the same position with no promotion and same pay.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt's a great place to start up for experience as they'll take you in, but Comerica does a horrible job with emplyee retention. The turnover here is amazing because the company pays much less than the compeition and it is very difficult to get promoted, no matter how hard you work. Get your experience, and then get the hell out!!!

Great learning opportunity and many different options for advancement

    Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)

ProsThere are many different departments and job functions offered in this company. Many employee's I've worked with have worked with the bank on average I'd say of at least 15 years... Lots of seniority within the company, which says a lot. Paid holidays and PTO are great benefits. Company matches your 401k, good benefits, and also able to purchase/sell PTO.

ConsBehind on technology and services. Work place interior and exterior designs are very out dated at the Banking Centers. HR could be more involved with employees to help them advance and find the best career path within the company. Processes could be improved for better efficiency. At banking centers, high pressure to exceed unrealistic sales goals, while staff is being cut and not replenished. Customer service workers are underpaid, they are the face of the company and drive the company's revenue. Limited to the company's footprint states, MI, TX, CA, AZ, FL for job opportunities. Do not offer internships.

Advice to Senior ManagementBig separation between upper management and the "worker bees". I've felt that many upper management employees do not have a strong idea of what lower ranked employees do every day. Makes you feel under appreciated. Advice: really take the time to talk to staff, understand processes, and learn the job functions around you.
