    Pros

Great company culture. The top people in the company are awesome leaders. Commerce Bank hires some really good people and that is one of the many reasons why they've been successful.

Commerce is also very community oriented.

    Cons

Middle management is a bit cut-throat at times. HR is very slow and tends to play favorites.

Cut backs can lead to a very unbalanced work/life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please continue to promote within the company. I've seen outsiders from other institutions damage the culture and standards of the product at several branches.

    Pros

Great Developing Teller Excellence class. Work with charities, raising money. If you like badgering customers with selling products and services they don't want, this job is for you.

    Cons

Inconsistencies in running branches. Greeting customers by name is seldom done and even though it is mandatory, it is seldom enforced. Pay raises are small to none, unless you are upper management who receives bonuses and huge raises. Mandatory teller referral goals, that if not met you will receive warnings and termination, which causes tellers to cheat in reporting referrals. Staffing is a joke. Seen plenty of times 3-4 customers standing in line with only one teller window open. Managers see the long customer lines, but ignore the situation. Teller training downtown is adequate, but there are a lot of areas of banking that are not taught. Many tellers have expressed they received better training at their branch than in the teller training program.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Enforce the policies in the employee handbook. Seldom hear customers greeted by name. Cell phones that are not suppose to be out on the workstation are allowed. Even with a customer standing at the teller window, tellers will check their cellphones. Give staff better wages, instead of worrying about shareholder's profit. Why should employees perform well when they feel the company does not appreciate the job they are doing? Mandatory teller referrals that causes tellers to cheat, by entering referrals into the system they did not make, in order not to lose their job. Customers who have expressed constantly they are annoyed by employees trying to sell them product and services they do not want. Customers have even threatened to close their accounts because they are tired of the selling. Staff the branches so customers are not waiting so long to be helped.

Great coworkers. Salary and benefits are competitive with in market. Human resources department offers a lot of opportunities for community involvement.

    Cons

Talk a lot about developing and promoting from within, but reality doesn't support that. In addition, Sr. Retail Management manages by fear and intimidation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
