I have been working at Commerzbank as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Nice atmosphere, lots of internal exchange and international contacts, nice and proper local managment, good Insights into financing solutions, good sales controlling, great team spirit

    Cons

A lot of internal politics, limited by itself , focus on retail business, no real investments into growth, investment banking is to small to compete against the larger players in the market and to support the international corporate banking

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Boost Corp. & Markets and Mittelstandsbank, improve international network - Bank has to get back "critical mass" to sustain in european competition against other commercial banks

I have been working at Commerzbank as a contractor

    Pros

easy pace, nice people to work with. Good place to learn from people if you are working on the right team with the right people.

    Cons

very political, all of the real decision making is made out of the Frankfurt office. Hard to progress upwards unless you are coming out of Frankfurt and decision making is extremely slow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

start putting the right people in mid and upper management. Listen to the people who are working in the mid levels, there is alot of talent on the floor that are not being heard out!

Former Employee - Intern in Frankfurt am Main (Germany)

I worked at Commerzbank as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Friendly people. Exposure to global banking topics but the culture of a local savings bank. Internal promotions appear to happen frequently and can get you quite far, while work-life balance is reasonable for finance.

    Cons

Bureaucracy can be cumbersome. The ship sinking is bad for morale - since the government bailout hiring has been frozen and you notice the effect on the quality of the people.

  10.

The bank is in trouble but there are opportunities to make an impact.

I worked at Commerzbank full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Lots of restructuring creates opportunities for younger employees.
The graduate program in Corporates and Markets is pretty good.

    Cons

The bank lacks a convincing strategy and employees have lost faith in their management. this has taken its toll on the work culture that used to be very positive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more radical. You're at a point where you need to change the way you're doing things.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
