I worked at Commerzbank full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Very little, decent benefits and random employee discounts
    - I was able to get a nice severance package
    - Pre -merger this review would have been different

    Cons

    - Read the news about this place and it's only a matter of time before they shut down the North America operation.
    - Very corrupt and unintelligent management.
    - No work from home.
    - Working with other departments is a hassle
    - If you don't have an english or german accent you will get nowhere

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Don't lie to auditors.
    - You are allowed to accept ideas from other people
    - Don't justify no bonuses when you authorized $400 million to the city of Detroit.

    Cons

Slow career development. Slow growth rate in Europe.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Commerzbank full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Much more vacation time than most companies

    Cons

-Post merger senior management looks down on almost all employees. Very arrogant. The idea of telecommute baffles them.
    - Dress code down to material of clothing
    - If you don't have an accent you will not get far
    - Employee morale is low. Everyone looking over their shoulder either expecting to get fired or severance.
    - Limited growth

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop micromanaging skilled managers with pointless $300k+ 'director' positions. Managers are afraid to think for themselves because of this. I've never seen a company go so downhill from a merger. Treat employees like human beings not business objects.

I worked at Commerzbank full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good culture pre-merger, focused on commercial banking. Small branch within a large international bank. Good work/life balance, with opportunities to contribute. Cutting edge technology with top level colleagues.

    Cons

Post-merger: continuous cost-cutting with continuous change of focus: first investment banking focus buildout, then cross-selling of IB products. Finally, just trying to stay afloat as a US $ center.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on strengths in US market, rather than trying to compete with the bigger IB banks.

I worked at Commerzbank as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

My manager was fantastic. She truly was looking out for my best interest and gave me a lot of responsibility and encouraged me to ask for more if I could handle it. My team was great and helped me whenever I needed their help. The view out of the 2WFC office is amazing as well.

    Cons

I wish there was a better training program. In addition, I wish HR did more to have the interns connect outside of work. I really cannot complain though because it was a great experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work!

I worked at Commerzbank as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Knowledgeable people to work with. A lot of the senior managers has been with the firm for over 15 years. You can take a nap during your break at dining area.

    Cons

Not fast paced environment, a lot of downtime. There is no room for growth or opportunity for personal development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I believe Commerzbank can bring in more business/client(s) for their New York office, that way they can hire more employees.

I have been working at Commerzbank full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

During integration with Dresdner Kleinwort, they had some very good employee integration activities so people could get to know one another which were stopped once the new CEO came in and all the quality Dresdner people either left or were let go.
Free soda and coffee in the break rooms.

    Cons

If you're not German, you won't get far. All of the leaders in the bank are either German or British and English is the second language there in some departments. Challenging the norm or doing anything outside the box is discouraged.
Paltry pay and bonus structure in comparison with other banks.
