    Pros

Strong compensation and benefits as well as dedicated efforts focused on employee training and development. Leadership is engaged with the employees and has a well communicated vision of the future of the business. Excellent career opportunities and strong developmental paths for high performers.

Work-life balance in many departments can be a struggle, employees are responsible for on call duties related to storm restoration in addition to lengthy work weeks as an expectation.

    Pros

pay, bonus, raises, benefits, co-workers, autonomy

    Cons

    management, training, storm duty, favoritism

    Advice to Management

Many departments have "tribal knowledge" and do not have adequate new-hire training, so implement a real comprehensive training program - Pay attention to managers who have high HR complaints and who have a high number of employees seeking new positions, many managers don't know the work they manage, don't know how to lead by example and will judge employees on their personal bias instead of their productivity

    Pros

    Great Pay.
    The company isn't going anywhere.
You will have important responsibilities from Day 1.
New CEO will be good for the company long term.

    Cons

Hard to get promoted, especially with favoritism playing a big role.
Lots of responsibilities means it's tough to truly step away from work and take a vacation.
Certain departments are in dire need of more staff.
Sometimes there's a "too many cooks" situation with higher-ups.

    Advice to Management

Be a part of cultivating your employees' careers. Stop promoting based on who knows who.

    Pros

Vacation, floating Hollidays, above average salary and benifits.

    Cons

Culture of a public accounting firm. Most people are CPA's with public experience.

    Advice to Management

Mix up the culture and hire/promote profesional with industry experience rather than hiring someone just because they worked in public.

    Cons

    The commute was very long.

    Advice to Management

    Storm duty disrupts normal operations.

    Pros

The pay is good, and the level of hands-on experience is good. Safety is a high priority. Competitive benefits. No competitors to worry about constantly since it is an energy distribution utility.

    Cons

Log jam in career advancement. Overly complex and restrictive legal dept makes contracting with others a nightmare. Strict budget policies (with good reason) since it is a utility. Some divisions seem understaffed/overworked.

    Advice to Management

Open up lanes for career paths. Foster young professionals to boost management skills. Offer more training. Hire more people since some divisions seem overworked.

    Pros

Compensation is good when compared to other companies in the area. It is bait.

    Cons

The company is a mess because there is no need for it to maintain any sort of efficiency. ComEd senior execs maintain a spoils sytem in the work place, waste money like crazy, make bad decisions, and then go to the government and ask them to hike rates on consumers. The corportate offices in the South Loop are horrible. Employees are miserable, driven crazy by incompetent leadership. I started looking for a new job three weeks after I started here.

    Advice to Management

Enjoy it while you can. Eventually, an auditor is going to come in here and put an end to business as you know it.

    Pros

Good compensation and better than average benefits.

    Cons

Lack of promotion opportunities. Politics. Unqualified people in management because they are friends and/or political contacts of the COO. Managers hassle you when you want to take the paid time off that you are entitled to.

    Advice to Management

There are clear problem areas where employee turnover, in one department is 95% per year. Open your eyes and fix the problem. You are working people to death and making lives miserable. We should unionize and then see where you'd be.
