Mediocre leadership and not much room for growth

Training Specialist (Former Employee) Boston, MA

Prosunion position, manageable workload, great office location, treated like a "person" (manager recognizes typical life problems such as sickness and family issues)

Consdisorganized, disjointed goals, lack of/poor communication, quick fix decision making, lack of resources available, hire based on "who you know" and not actual qualifications

Advice to Senior ManagementYears of experience in state government does not equal quality. Compensate employees for their hard work and in order to keep them.

Good, stable employer if you're interested in working in the public sector

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood salary and benefits - health insurance, many holidays, generous vacation & sick time, 403b retirement plan. Vision and dental plans are ok. Many state employees are dedicated civil servants who are inspiring to work with

ConsPay increases are minimal and pre-determined/union-negotiated - no merit increases. Few opportunities for advancement unless you have an advanced degree. High employee retention but sometimes older workers are uninterested in innovating, learning new skills, or improving efficiency. Bureaucracy and state oversight tends to slow processes down.

    Division of Banks: Solid Job

Bank Examiner (Former Employee) Boston, MA

ProsGood and friendly people, you gain responsibilities quickly, very good and extensive training, job security, flex time is great, good benefits, travel and gas reimbursements. If you want to be there long term there is a pension.

ConsYou have to believe that the job is necessary since it's government. The future is uncertain at times depending on politics and budgets. There is more money in private sector.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
