I have been working at Community College of Aurora full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good work life balance. Flexible schedule that allowed me to attend children's school functions, etc.

    Cons

Opportunities for advancement within the company are non-existent, especially for veteran employees. Pay is a lot less than average.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Revisit the pay for all salary levels as well as state classified employees. Never say what you can't do unless someone has tried to make change possible. Post internal positions so that all employees have the chance to apply. Stop appointing positions without going through an interview selection process. Change the culture that fits the current staff and community as a whole. Yes, that means removing the current board of directors and replacing and realigning the members to share the same goals and values for change management.

I worked at Community College of Aurora part-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

College faculty and staff treat one another like family. I worked there ten years as an adjunct in the history/ social sciences dept. I have taught both in this classroom and online.
Salary range is as high here as many colleges.

    Cons

After I moved out of state I continued to teach online. In those few years the staff and faculty have grown tremendously and there have been numerous administrative changes as well. I think the growth is positive but I have begun to feel really "out of the loop."

I have been working at Community College of Aurora

    Pros

The student population is very diverse and brings a lot to the table. As well, there are many opportunities for professional development and it seems that if you stick it out for a few years, the chance at a full time job isn't unheard of.

    Cons

No choice is text book selection and the ones they have now are difficult to use if you want to teach with any independent thought.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow text book selection by the teachers, at least in the comp 2 course.
