I worked at Community Health Center as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Good communication between line staff. Supervision is a priority and taken seriously. Organized electronic record keeping.

    Cons

Expected to diagnose almost immediately. Unscheduled administrative duties make it difficult to lock notes on time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider scheduling admin time. Being unable to take our computers home, interns cannot always rely on no-shows to lock notes, make referrals, make appointments etc.

I worked at Community Health Center full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are very good - majority of medical/dental/vision covered by employer (80%+), Anthem coverage, decent 403(b) match, 5 weeks personal time (to be taken any way you like, no differentiating between personal and vacation).

    Cons

Don't even know where to start with this one. The senior management is so wrapped up in themselves and their image, they could care less about all of the employees that keep their exorbitant paychecks coming. They don't support a healthy work/life balance - if you're not eating/sleeping/breathing CHC, you're not a "Star" employee. It takes it's toll on you for sure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop treating your employees like a piece of gum - bring a new one in, chew them up until the flavors gone, and just spit them out to move onto the fresh piece... without the blink of an eye.

I have been working at Community Health Center as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Some staff are very inspired and motivated to help clients/consumers, care about what they do and the help they give. Trained staff are qualified and practice client confidentiality, want to help and are the right kind of people to provide assistance and support to people in recovery for drug addictions.

    Cons

Supervisor protects bad employees, supervisor doesn't train staff & seems uninterested in quality of staff, high turnover. Staff issues involving dishonesty harms upright staff, they get away with this, don't do their jobs and cause negativity and hostile work environments. Managers not interested in solving staff issues or getting involved, tell staff to "talk to each other to work this out" when some staff have no interest in working anything out to continue deliberately causing problems and continue acting badly. It is hard to keep working in this kind of environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train the staff, listen to employees with problems with other staff and do something that adds to qualified, quality of service provided to clients. Absent management produces ethical violations in staff who are then fired and clients suffer.
