I worked at Community Health Systems as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

There are some extremely smart people that work there.

    Cons

The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Upper management has created a culture of fear instead of a healthy working relationship. Tension is extremely high, moral low, and employees are extremely over worked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start over, what you're doing isn't working. Look at your turnover rate, it should paint a pretty ugly picture for you.

    Pros

    Located in community near home
    Fair benefits

    Cons

Money driven at a deep level
Flexes staff to deeply causing problems
Politics seems to be a key factor in roles

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be loyal to your employees. A bonus is not as important as patient care.

I worked at Community Health Systems full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Very friendly atomsphere and environment. Employees are very conscientious about patient care because of high percentages needed from patient assessments. Hospital floors are usually very quiet.

    Cons

Had a very good experience of really loving what I did and found the work-life balance suitable. Like many hospitals today their concern is about making enough profit to sustain operations. My particular job saw a high percentage in turnover of patients in and then out of the hospital. This keeps the hospital employees very busy in maintaining high patient occupancy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too much micromanaging done by some manager. Too much breeds mistrust and discontent. Some managers need continuing education on how to manage properly and courteously to their employees. Great communication skills are an important asset in maintaining wonderful employee-management relationships. More can be done to make some operations run much more smoothly and efficiently. Employees should never have to come and work in a stress-filled environment because of poor managers.

I have been working at Community Health Systems full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to learn new things and expand work experience. Most of the employees have been with the company for 10 years or more. Doesn't get boring. Fast paced. Coworkers are great team players. Immediate supervisors are great.

    Cons

Pay not commensurate with the heavy workload. Endless tasks on computer system, many of the tasks are busy work. Have to wear many different hats at the same time. Can be frustrating and feels like it's hard to get everything done and do a good job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please speed up the computer system, it's hard to get things done when the system grinds to a halt several times weekly. Take a look at the computer tasks as some of them are busywork. Beginning of month workload is becoming unbearable as I'm expected to run benefits for the whole caseload while completing all of my other duties. Look at pay rates. The workload has at least doubled and our office has exceeded goals, all while working short staffed. But we got the worst pay raise ever.
