    Pros

Can't think of one good thing about working for CHS. Previously worked for HMA until bought out by CHS

    Cons

Management are total idiots. CNO micromanages. Short staffed. Tries to accept patients they know that we can't appropriately care for such as trauma patients, patients such as neuro bc we don't have that discipline on staff.

    Advice to Management

You need to be fired. Especially the CNO. She doesn't have a clue about management at all or patients. Not does
She care about the patients and that they aren't appropriately being cared for.

I have been working at Community Health Systems full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Most of my Co worker's are kind and truly concerned about the patients.
Eventually will purchase items needed to assist pt's and safety.

    Cons

Us and them attitude between nursing and therapy.
Takes a lot of complaining to get the tools to do my job correctly. Have reduced benefits. No reimbursement for any continuing education and no in house education except for nursing staff.

    Advice to Management

Discourage tattle taling for encouraging direct open communication between staff members. Accountability for dept heads that encourage it.

    Pros

good vacation time, salary is reasonable, benefits are better than a lot of places, positive culture and value statements, positive mission statement. I really feel that this could be a great place to work if there were different people in local management.

    Cons

too many bosses who don't know what they are doing. company thinks they own the providers, preach about compliance and quality service but treat employees very badly. The company's written values and mission statements are right on, it's just too bad no one follows them. I have seen the term "enslavement" posted by other people about this company and I have to agree. Low level managers are constantly reminding providers (doctors, PAs and NPs) that they can be fired just because. There is a culture of beat them down and keep them there. All the good nurses are leaving for better working conditions elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Get some people in the C suite who care about employees and patients, get some lower level management that actually have management experience and understand that without the providers, they won't have a job, instead of letting these people tell providers that if they don't do as they are told they will be fired. Health care providers are professional people, we are there because we want to do our best taking care of patients. We don't need to be monitored and threatened. We don't need low level managers telling us how we are "allowed" to care for patients. It should not be up to a low level manager to decide the care offered to the patients. There is no consistency across the different clinics/offices. One office may be doing things one way but another office is not allowed the same practice because of different office managers. Example: one office is scanning old records into EMR while another office is told it is too expensive and we are not allowed to scan any patient test results older than 1 year and no previous office notes. One office is allowed to stock certain medications for patient use and another office is not allowed to purchase the same medication.

    Pros

stability and good people to work with
Corporate office is way over their head in all things technology related so if you have decent skills in that area you can get good raises and advancement.

    Cons

Behind the curve on every healthcare and technology trend. I built a reporting framework that was used by the entire division 2 years out of college and completely self taught in programming/data analysis (I studied business economics). I was offered a job at the corporate office and switched companies instead. The red tape and bureaucracy is mind blowing.

    Advice to Management

Get a new executive team. Current team is stuck in the 90s and seems to be only interested in milking their stock options. Read the SEC filings and you will see that the CEO and his team have been dumping their stock for the last 2 years. Big red flag.
