    Pros

Excellent 401k match, bonus plan for all employees, great culture, people centric, engaging mission and vision. Many opportunities if you work hard! Also, loved the outgoing CEO, but very excited about the new CEO, too!

    Cons

Health plan isn't great and some longer term employees/leaders seem to hold the organization back, but overall this really is a great place to work!

    Advice to Management

Evaluate benefits and look at ways to re-engage longer term employees and leaders who may not be moving in alignment with the organization anymore.

    Pros

Benefits including 401k available immediately. Company bonuses. Decent pay and flexible schedule. Good culture and ethics.

    Cons

Hard focus on sales. Was not explained well in job description or during interview.

    Advice to Management

    Be empathetic towards your employees.

    Pros

Fun Environment. Employees extremely passionate about the work they do

    Cons

When you start working for the company, they will tell you that you are not there to sell product. Your sole purpose is to recommend products to improve the financial lives of the member. This is a sales position. They will and do expect your to sell products.

    Advice to Management

    It wont help.

    Pros

Disorganization and constant shift of directions make it easy to coast and take an easy paycheck. No one works much more than 40 hrs / week and as long as you don't rock the boat, it's easy money (although they don't pay very well)

    Cons

There are a couple (ok, maybe just one) progressive leader(s) and the rest have been there for a while and are able to continue to be employed by disgusting antics that would get people fired at better run companies.

    Advice to Management

keep your fingers crossed credit union tax situation doesn't change, because once it does, your inefficiencies and waste will be exposed and you won't be able to do things like profit to the people and you'll lose members. Sadly, when that happens, a bank will gobble you up and the inept execs will walk away with a nice pay day...

    Pros

If you have a friend at a high level you can get a high paying job here easily. There are many, many grossly overpaid people that work here, some because they have been there for decades, some because they are a friend of someone. Bonus program is extremely lucrative as well, can be over 20% of your salary. Never worked anywhere that people can be hired without experience in the area they manage nor where so little is expected in order to earn the salary you take home. Once you get a title you will have it forever even if they move you into another role that doesn't warrant it (see VP level)

    Cons

Computer systems are some of the worst you will experience and there are so many people in the IT department without any idea what they are doing. There is an endless black hole of project list that never gets done or it takes a year or two to finish anything. They just don't staff for getting projects finished and making people finish them. Just think what could be accomplished if they hired people with experience skill knowledge talent and ambition--but then they wouldn't have the money for all the bonuses they give out. No opportunities for promotion or advancement. Again, you have to be a friend of someone. And there is a undercurrent of the idea of not hiring someone with skills and experience because they might out shine me. I know of a couple of people with strong background and skills who apply for jobs but don't even get an interview because the hiring person isn't looking for someone like that.

    Advice to Management

A new CEO with the opportunity to make changes, yet she has been there for 20 years--I doubt highly anything changes. I would scrap the bonus program in totality and see who leaves because of it (its not like they over compensated anyway). There are a number of people who work there that are not going anywhere else to work. Stop the mix of friendships and social media interaction between the management level and employees.

    Pros

If you are someone who just likes to do the bear minimum required and have no ambition or any desire to do anything else in your career, this is the place for you. You won't have any expectations to improve your skills or become more efficient in your work. Even better, your manager might not even know what you do all day because the Peter Principle is a competency quadrant in performance reviews. There is most definitely a point of no return for staff, meaning, if you make it to you certain anniversary, you reached tenure and you will never leave, you will never be asked to leave and you pretty much can do whatever you want without management supervision. Unless you are someone who speaks up and disagrees with what is going on--then you will be shown the door

    Cons

Not a good place to work for those that might have work ethics or personal character traits like honesty and integrity. Experience in banking might be a plus when getting hired, but will quickly be ignored if it conflicts with someone else's agenda. You will find more people willing to put a knife in your back than people willing to develop you and support your efforts.

    Advice to Management

Come out of mahogany row once in awhile and remember that at one point you were in a cube. Unless of course, your one of those that doesn't care how you treat people while you are moving up and look down on those in jobs that you once held. Pretty sad environment.

    Pros

I truly enjoyed my time at the credit union. It is very much a team atmosphere which quickly comes to feel like family. The opportunity to learn and grow within CommunityAmerica is great. Your career at CA will be what you make of it. Take advantage of learning different areas/functions of the business when those opportunities arise. Very committed to volunteering in the community.

    Cons

I have nothing bad to say

    Pros

Pays more than other FIs in Kansas City for some front line employees. 401k match and additional payment in Jan/Feb based on condition of CU doesn't happen in many places. Bonus program exists for all but the higher ups get a substantial greater piece of the pie than front line, but at least one exists. The only option on health insurance is a high deductible plan, so if you are a entry level employee and have a serious health care issue, you have to come up with around $2000 up front to cover your expenses. Employees can have accounts there and feel free to overdraw it on a regular basis. There won't be any consequences. There really isn't any accountability on employees or their managers to meet goals or performance metrics, in fact, your manager might not care what you do all day as long as you show up and not cause them any problems.

    Cons

Very top heavy organization and a large gap of disconnect exists between SVP level and mid management/employees. Many long time employees --10, 15, 20 years -- have little incentive or expectation to bring anything new to the table, other than protect their own backside. Internal computer systems are obsolete and high maintenance. You have to log into a minimum of 5-10 different systems in any given day to do your job, and don't even try to suggest an improvement, the IT dept is pretty much content in maintaining what they are doing now. No strategic vision in the IT area, some of that comes from the top, some comes from the management in that area. No opportunities to advance and no program in place to allow you to learn or grow in the FI industry. Sadly, a senior management's waiter at their country club has a better chance for a management position than someone who has worked there doing the job for 2-3 years. What is today a high priority and need to give input immediately may very be an afterthought in 3 months. No one is expected to "own" anything, if fact, if someone asks you to own it and you don't want to, you don't have to.

    Advice to Management

Hire the new CEO from the outside and require a "vision" for the future. Get rid of the dead weight (employees, including management) that exists in so many areas. Add staff to those areas that are lacking. What do all those VPs and Directors do? If you put out an employee survey and say "we listened" then do something about it. One year later, still no changes. Why do good employees leave? Why are good employees marginalized? So much potential yet its still run like a mom/pop organization from 20 years ago. There are zero strategies or ideas in place or for the future that would make someone say, "this is a progressive organization".

    Pros

Accessible CEO Great incentive compensation Hard work pays off - great potential for advancement opportunities Volunteer hours encouraged Company is visible in the community - great ads, T-Bones

    Cons

Increase employee engagement More customer service training for front line staff

    Advice to Management

Leadership is fully involved in the growth and they care about their employees but there seems to be disconnect between the corporate offices and branch locations. Pay is often higher in the corporate office and this frustrates branch employees. Overall, the organization is a great place to work in KC but there is a need to improve overall employee satisfaction! HR is not the answer because they are focused on recruiting!
