Pros
benefits, relationships, vacation, experience, knowledge
Cons
the multitude of corporate mandatory programs
Pros
The work is challenging but management and corporate are very supportive. Solid, growing company gave me confidence that I would have a job and could professionally advance. Co-workers were great! Corporate office does a good job of organizing and disseminating information to the unit level. Grade: A.
Cons
One of the only negatives - LONG hours with no additional compensation and when review time comes around you get 3% cost of living increase if you are lucky. Advice: get hired at the salary you want and expect to be close to that for awhile, unless you are motivated to move into different, somewhat readily available, role.
Advice to Senior Management
Corporate seems very knowledgeable and organized, however, it is up to the unit managers to use those tools and information. I witnessed some fellow managers not in tune with what was available to them and consequently their employees miss out. Corporate has great training programs, employee discount/perks, monthly "jobs available" report, community charity initiatives, employee recognition programs, supportive human resource programs, etc. etc. etc. Good job corporate.
Pros
job stability, friendly environment, pay
Cons
poor management
lack of information
Advice to Senior Management
learn the job you are supervising before you try to lead them
Pros
M-F, out by 6 on most days, unless catering
paid vac time
Cons
upper managements can make or break your account, if they are not educated it is a trackle down effect. just depends on where you are placed
Advice to Senior Management
make sure management is properly trained to handle job
Pros
Compass Group really has a lot of great people who work together to deliver results in spite of being such a huge company.
Cons
Obviously it's a challenge for any company of this size to find the right balance between too much information and not enough communication. It's a struggle.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep investing in your middle management. They really want to perform for the organization and they really want to be empowered to make a difference.
Pros
Non-micro managing culture
Job security due to organizations' huge cashflow levels
Cons
The upper level management at this company typically does not have the necessary educational background for their positions. At Compass Group you can find a director or VP without a degree Promotions are very unclear and it's based on who do you know and how much of rear kissing you do. Career plans are non existing unless you are at a lower level in operations Salaries are not up to par for the amount of hours you will need to spend at work on a daily basis
Advice to Senior Management
Develop career opportunites for people that would like to grow and provide them leadership training
Pros
The only benefit is the schedule. Mon-Fri.
Oh, and in todays economic climate, "Be happy to have a job."
Cons
No growth opportunity. I have applied for more than 50 positions and have not had one interview.
Incurred drastic paycut (better than 30%) with promise of ample opportunities. Current pay equal to entry level for a seasoned professional with 20+yrs experience and college degree.
Human Resources are not available for the benefit of the employee but really to give the company a heads up to potential problems. Open door policy is a sham.
Corporate must have one basic requirement for management personnel. In order to be in a power position you must be willing and able to disregard all employees skills and accomplishments. Bullies are a plus. Recognition shall not be allowed.
One would think that a company of its caliper would truely appreciate good quality professionals and treat them as such in order to retain them, but quite the opposite, everyone is replaceable. We are all a dime a dozen. As soon as something else comes my way I'm out of here.
It is just a job. If you want a career seek employment elsewhere. Good Luck.

I wish I knew of Glassdoor years ago.
Advice to Senior Management
Perhaps you should practice what you preach. Have you read the Compass Visions and Values.
Beautifully crafted rhetoric. Also take a look at what other employees have to say. Just imagine how many others don't know who to tell or how to tell. I believe your heads would spin. But probably not because you really just don't care.
Pros
Compass Group is a great food service company. They offer great benefits and pay especially when compared to other aspects of the culinary industry. They do offer some other cool company perks as well.
It really depends on the account you work for as well.
Cons
Corporate can be pushy when it comes to implementing new programs that they see as a value but you as a direct employee of the account see as absolutely worthless and know that the resources would be better spent in other ways.
Spending of client money to go to what seem to be pretty worthless meetings. We are in a recession and we are supposed to be saving money for our clients, if corporate has something to say they should find alternative ways such as the webinars to get the point across.
Pros
a lot of opportunities to move around the country; the company is young, growing rapidly in this market, and invested in providing fantastic customer service
Cons
like their competitors, there is a huge lack of work-life balance and managers are used to fill in the cost gaps
Pros
Large growing company, good to gain for work experience.
Cons
Lack of Career Advancement, not too diverse for management level positions.
