I have been working at Compass Group USA

    Pros

Work from home so there is a lot of freedom with the schedule. You are essentially your own boss, which of course has its benefits. Competitive salary, company vehicle/phone/laptop. Gas card and corporate card.

    Cons

Essentially zero training. They give you a number to hit and that is it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Train your employees.

I have been working at Compass Group USA

    Pros

Great teamwork at the local level. So many opportunities within the company if you are willing to relocate. Loved the freedom to be creative and to be allowed to work on my own.

    Cons

I find it unfortunate that many of the companies under the umbrella of Compass Group don't work together better. Why paid an outside company for temp labor when you can work together to benefit your own team?

I worked at Compass Group USA full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I worked for The Met Museums MDR restaurant under contract by Compass Group. They have a union you can join after 3 months of employment and after 1 year you get health insurance and PTO. MDR is not a entry-level restaurant but their pastry department is a very easy-going environment. You use a lot of the basic recipes you learned in pastry school to make most of their menu and occasionally get to experiment and try out some of your own techniques. Overall I enjoyed working there. I learned a lot about the restaurant scene and doing mass production with a small team.

    Cons

Some of my challenges working here was my commute to and from work and the extensive walk from the locker room to the dining room but other than that I had no problem. I was always let to work on my own with little supervision.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication is key when it comes to fulfilling the needs of the customer and restaurant. There always room for improvement when it comes to communication.

I have been working at Compass Group USA full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The people who work for Compass are great at their job, compassionate, and they all have fun personalities. You always have the opportunity to move up in the company, and they always push for you to do so. They also have accounts all across the country, so if you ever wanted to stay with them, but wanted to move, they are always willing to me accommodating towards that.

    Cons

The challenges right now are dealing with constant changing in rules and procedures. However, this is because they are in the middle of redeveloping many aspects of the company for the benefit of everyone in the long run. So it is just temporary. Long term, there are really no cons for working with this company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a way to get more people aware of job opportunities across the country. I know several people who want to move off somewhere but feel that they cannot afford to. This causes them to feel stuck where they are. I have informed some of how you can apply to other jobs in the company at many different accounts across the country, however not everyone is aware. Find out where employees would like to move to, and help them figure out a way to get there.

    Cons

If you are male you can be very successful if you are a women your voice made not be heard. If you are heard you may not be taken seriously.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be open and honest, understand the HR policies for the state that you work in. Understand the women are not emotional. They view things differently - open your eyes and listen to the discussion points.

    Pros

A big company offers a huge umbrella to protect you.
Plenty of security in terms of hours and insurance.

    Cons

Make no mistakes, you're a number.
HR's answer to most of your problems/grievances will be "associates shouldn't talk/ask about that kind of stuff."
Advancement seemed to be relegated to management and food service. Five years at minimum wage for a chance to manage for a dollar more is absurd.
Pay is low and unit managers seem to be encouraged to find ways to skim even more off your check.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

How do you tell a soulless corporation to grow a soul? You can't. Enjoy your profits.

    Cons

Hire some managers who are willing to work with staff, provide leadership, and listen when staff has concerns and complaints.
