    I worked at Compass Lexecon

    Pros

In my experience at Compass, I encountered some of the most kind, intelligent, and highly trained individuals that I had ever met. The pay was great and the work (all financial, economic, and econometric analysis) was always fascinating. Certainly a highly rewarding job, if you are of the proper mindset, which I was not (see cons)

    Cons

Litigative economic consulting is extremely volatile and unpredictable. One day you may work 9:00am to 4:00pm and the next, entirely without warning, you may work 9:00am to 10:00pm. Despite commendable efforts by my managers, the environment was also very stressful, due to the highly valuable and time-sensitive nature of the work (airlines do not put their court dates on hold).

    Advice to Management

In truth, none. The managers of the Airlines Team were absolutely excellent.

    Pros

culture, compensation, some work and life balance depending on the office location.

    Cons

Have to have a graduate degree to get promoted to manager level. PHD are preferred in this company, but most of people don't go for PHD.

Very friendly work environment for junior professionals. A lot of exposure to high profile cases. People care about you and recognize your talent. If you prove you can handle it, you'll get extra responsibilities.

    Pros

Great atmosphere, very collaborative, lots of involvement with senior management, lots of contact with colleagues at other European offices, co-location with parent company makes it feel like a bigger company, semi transparent leadership team.

    Cons

team can work very very long hours and can get very stressful, sometimes at the expenses of praise for hard work and feeling valued. stressful atmosphere sometimes means that people can become unresponsive and over focused. Management need to take more care of HR procedures and work with HR to uphold them. HR procedures not always upheld and followed.

    Advice to Management

More transparency, more praise, follow HR procedures, better communication

    Pros

Preps junior level people for grad school. Fast paced work environment with really smart people

    Cons

No way to move from junior to senior level internally (PhD required)

    Advice to Management

Overtime pay on top of salary is HUGE benefit that helps immensely on those long nights and weekends of work. Not all good economists are good managers though...

    Pros

Compass Lexecon Prmotes from within, so plenty of growth opportunity for serious, hard workers. Academic and collaborative work atmosphere. Never feels like you're competing with peers.

    Cons

In order to advance your career here you generally have to be wiling to work long hours as, in the end, what is most appreciated here is to work fast, much and not make mistakes. So it can get very stressful.

    Advice to Management

Acknowledge hard work and give more thorough reviews. Be more clear about expectations. Open up more channels for conversations on career advancement.

    Pros

Some substantive work from the start, good pay, smart people, good perks (4+ weeks vacation from start, overtime pay, overtime/weekend meals). Very open, even head of office cares about little guy's opinion.

    Cons

Sometimes very boring, can work on same case for months, little direction in slow times. Little focus on personal and professional development.

    Advice to Management

Provide more training to those new to the industry. Job will be more rewarding if know the type of work you're getting thrown into.
