Pros
Small company, good growth potential. Fun to work for.
Cons
Need to work extra hard.
Advice to Senior Management
Need some headup for things that are coming.
Pros
It offers a great product and service for the biotech field.
Cons
The company culture is very dry and not team oriented.
Pros
Great technology platform. The sequencing platform has advantages over other next-gen offerings. Talented hardware and software engineers. Strong leadership in software engineering. A good research and development based company.
Cons
Customer facing departments of the company lack strong leadership. Management infighting causes morale issues. The future of the company is uncertain.
Advice to Senior Management
Compete on value added not price. Build a support organization that can keep up with customer demand. Mandatory pay cuts are not an effective means of managing budget issues.
Pros
Company is still doing decent, at least in the second half, and I still have a relatively good job with OK benefits.
Cons
Insecurity about the future of the company is what made very good people to abandon the company and fin their way somewhere else. On top of this the mid year lay off wasn't the smartest idea.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to be more honest with employees and do not treat them like second class kids that would not understand when the company is going down.
Pros
Lots of important worthwhile work being done.
Good chances to gain skills and work experience.
Honesty from the CEO and CFO about risks that navigated us through tough times to fresh successes.
Cons
Management that seems to be in deep conflict
Overly Excessive Politics and self promotion
Good high level strategic risk taking but poor tactical decision making and risk management
Advice to Senior Management
Follow the example of the CEO/CFO and get honest rather than listening to the loudest voices
Learn to spot manipulation
Pros
Benefits and day to day work environment are nice
Cons
Career grow opportunities, no raises (at least not yet)
Advice to Senior Management
Go away from wars between departments
Pros
Active industry and interesting work. Interesting problem set to work on and good access to resources to complete assigned tasks. Good tools and freedom to select technologies to assist you in your job.
Cons
Competative mangement structure creates preassures on employees. Fairly political management and some individual contributors make good use of it. Recent changes have helped to make things a easier, however employees have very little individual discretion over how things are designed, in some cases justifiably but often inappropriately. Negative feedback tends to be used to supress opinions and postive feedback feels/sounds forced.
Advice to Senior Management
Listening skills are an area that needs some attention.
