    Behind the CSC Curtain

I have been working at Computer Sciences Corp

    Pros

The employees are experienced, talented and often underappreciated. Many move on to greener pastures with other companies.

    Cons

Employees are just a number affecting the bottom line. Constant revolving door of management. Due to the antiquated forced distribution raise system, most employees do not receive a promotional increase yet leadership continues to collect millions off the backs of those who actually perform the work. Many fear when the next layoff is coming - they will be replaced by younger, lower salaried hires. Also, the Company tends to oversell and under deliver its offerings due to lack of resource pool. Rumors of buyout continue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Analogy: You can only cut your grocery bill so much before you either starve, become malnourished or fade away to nothing.

I worked at Computer Sciences Corp full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great leadership and investment in the people.

    Cons

BCG did a workforce analysis to reduce the size of the firm but didn’t take time to understand leadership dynamics or variance in remaining leadership and manager capability. The result was a lean organization with less leadership and reduced focus on development or employee engagement. You can predict what happened next.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

CSC was a great firm with caring leaders and exceptional employee development. Build the firm leadership competency and focus on employee development.

    Pros

There were very professional people; good comradery; learned alot; excellent manager

    Cons

One project I worked on ECSS got to unwieldy; that project was managed poorly and planned poorly to get the lowest bid; failed miserably

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not cut corners to get the lowest bid. ECSS should be a learning experience.

    Pros

Giant Brand Name. If you are a fresher and have joined CSC, the name will take you places.
    Finest company to work in

    Cons

Small projects in India can sometimes hinder personal growth

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With the ramp up going, CSC will rise and rise. Keep up the good work.

I have been working at Computer Sciences Corp full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of training with internal self-paced and instructor-led classes.

    Cons

Morale is at an all-time low since 1997 when I started. Layoffs come in waves every few months and everyone is terrified.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Slow down the "transformation train" for a few minutes to invest in the people who have been moving mountains to accomplish so much work in so little time. Salaries are embarrassingly low.

I worked at Computer Sciences Corp full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Good Co-workers
    - New technologies

    Cons

    - To many managers (needs restructure)
    - Reviews conducted by someone who you do not work with so how can they be reliable?
    - Company does everything it can to not reward those who deserve it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Restructure from the TOP down, not bottom up

    Pros

Decent pay. Fair benefits. Occasionally opportunities for growth into cutting edge technology. Deep pockets.

    Cons

Weak technology leadership. Weak global cohesiveness

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on a cohesive global strategic plan. Avoid following the "White Rabbit". Superior talent will require superior pay, benefits and opportunities

I have been working at Computer Sciences Corp full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great team members who are dedicated to excelling at their jobs and making for a fun challenging work environment. At least this was my experience most of the time. With consulting this is likely to change often. Co-workers are generally very helpful and follow a team mentality to accomplishing goals.

    Cons

The company is constantly re-organizing to the point it's become a joke. At least that's the perception at the lower levels. Employees don't even know their titles or standing within the company. After several years I became disenfranchised with the larger organization

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reviewers should always be on the same project, contract, or site as the employee they are reviewing. It's not helpful to be rated and reviewed by someone who has only met you once or twice.
