Pros
Opportunities everywhere in the business. You need to make it happen yourself though. Look for a supportive manager or speak with HR to map out options for career development, or perhaps a secondment in another department.
The open office environment takes a little getting used to, but is generally a good thing that fosters interaction and tries to break down the walls of siloed businesses.
Cons
While the remuneration is okay, it's often not quite at market rates. However, there is a balance as the work environment is fairly relaxed, supportive and professional.
Advice to Senior Management
Get amongst the 'little people' more and talk directly to them - not only via email or middle managers. Senior management's face amongst the teams does wonders to encourage enthusiasm and lets the staff see that management acknowledges their efforts.
Pros
good focus on objectives. people are mostly open about issues and ambitions/objectives
Cons
Very little coaching, guidance from executive management to senior management.
They expect you to read their minds ... from a distance
Setting of objectives and delegation of functions and responsibility is factionalised and politicised. there is very little objective and mature assessment of capabilities, proposals at the senior level.
Very little stringency in assessing the financial feasibility and ROI of projects. Little transparency in this area due to an immature management culture
Advice to Senior Management
executive and senior management need to be more transparent in how they set objectives and assign responsibility for delivery. management needs to be prepared to present the rationale for the proposed approach.
Pros
Flexible and friendly work environment.
Good industry reputation.
Accessible location. Parking spots can be used for a reasonable annual fees.
Cons
Below average market wage rates.
Advice to Senior Management
Salaries should be based on total experience and qualifications.
