Pros
Compuware has a decent work environment, espl. at HQ (Detroit) after moving to the new building around 2001.
on-site daycare
full-fledged gym facility
exposure to diverse technologies and industries
employee-friendly
Cons
Top managers and middle managers (espl. the old-style Professional Services) are the primary hurdle to employee growth. They recruit the top-of-the-breed when it comes to techies, but do a very poor job with middle-managers. They either are just happy to draw a paycheck, or don't care for the company or their direct reports.
Advice to Senior Management
I am aware that management likes to constantly state that the employees are the company's best assets, but that is just lip-service. If you evaluate why your best technologists have left for greener pastures, they weren't rewarded enough (both monetarily and otherwisee).
Pros
Decent pay and sales bonuses, Bob made decent good acquisitions and consolidated the product lines, not a high employee turn over/lay offs
Cons
Compuware is Not a very aggressive company, employees in other branch offices get very low visibility for promotions, low interaction among other branches across the world, no raise in stock price
Advice to Senior Management
Grow employees abilities, let go of the underperformed, take performance reviews seriously and use them to promote talented employees, promote the Compuware brand name more in teh industry.
Pros
Great work life balance - employees are treated very well and encouraged to take car of themselves. The company has a world-class fitness center in the building, and many health oriented programs. Much training available to learn new skills, certifications, and personal growth Strong commitment to the local community, and enthusiastic support from CEO level to be involved in giving back to any charitable entity or community group.
Cons
Limited interaction in the Professional consulting area. Difficult to understand what the requirements are for moving to other divisions in the company.
Pros
Career orientated, professional growth opportunitues, location, exposure to different business areas, Compuware people and culture, builidng amenities,
Cons
Time off for paid Holidays could be better. Vacation time changes at 5 years and stays at 3 weeks indefinitely. It would be nice to add on a couple of days after 10 years or more of service.
Pros
The culture of company is one that cares about its employees and their families.
No matter what level you are in the company, people are always will to treat you as if you are top priority.
I feel everyone at Compuware truly cares about the future of the business and will work together to make us the best in our industry.
I also feel that our leadership is always doing whatever they can to make our future stronger at Compuware.
Cons
I feel that we can become more compettitive in regards to our benefits. i.e. vacation package
We could also look at other financial incentives to encourage more 401k participation.
Advice to Senior Management
Utilize some of our most talented leaders and showcase their talents. Invite these talented leaders to mentor new management as they enter our organization. We have many talented leaders within Compuware and I feel they can make a difference in how we develop and educate our teams.
Pros
Great people; tremendous benefits; talented management and clearly articulated strategy.
Cons
Not many - if the company could grow faster, it would create more opportunities for all.
Pros
If you do your job well you are rewarded. Salaries are extremely competitive.
Cons
No support for continued education -- tuition reimbursement would be nice.
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in your employees -- continued education can keep your work force at the top of its game.
Pros
Pay was fair, bonuses were also good. Working at HQ provided visibility to some things that the remote offices did not have, and there were perks to working at Corporate (such as Cafeteria, Workout facility, onsite day care)
Cons
Management frequently did not share vision with employees. Quick to develop and launch new initiatives, and just as quick to turn around and kill them. Often, this was without sufficient time to allow them to take hold in the organization and begin to develop and mature.
Advice to Senior Management
Tell your employees what is going on. Be thoughtful regarding launching of new initiatives or campaigns, or restructuring, and allow sufficient time to gather feedback and make corrections before killing something and going in a different direction.
Pros
Pay. People and work and customers
Cons
Leadership. Innovative customer satisfaction and very conservative
Advice to Senior Management
Risk and look outwards
Pros
One of the best reasons to work at Compuware is the variety of interesting projects and clients the company has to work with both in the U.S. and internationally.
Cons
Lack of communication between Account Managers and Project Managers.
Advice to Senior Management
More communication needed at the mid-manager level to bridge the connection with employees working at clients and the company.
