I have been working at Compuware full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great company to build a career with in the Software industry. Industry-leading products and intelligent, passionate people make for an intense but great work environment. Fantastic facilities & benefits. Flexible work hours and time off benefits.

    Cons

A needed culture shift is changing the dynamic a bit and there is some push back from tenured employees. Initial compensation is competitive but increases are not. Opportunities for advancement are limited in some groups, but extensive in others.

    Pros

I worked with some good people and made some good friends. Salary was about average for my experience level when hired. Benefits were average to above average.

    Cons

Management was difficult to approach and often gave praise and rewards to favorites rather than those who had real accomplishments. Formal training was lacking. Constant layoffs.

I have been working at Compuware full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of great people who work throughout the company. Benefits are very good and for the majority of the time work life balance has been great. It is a casual work environment which is nice. The facilities are exceptional and in a cool location with free parking. The company has a solid portfolio of technology behind it.

    Cons

Unfortunately since Peter Karmanos departed from the company in 2013, our CEO Bob Paul has been piecemealing business off to private equity companies. There has been a general atmosphere of anxiety since he took over. Poor leadership by our CEO and Board of Directors has nearly dissolved the company completely. Salary increases at or below inflation unless promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increasing your own long-term incentives while telling your employees to tighten their belts sends a very bad signal to the people who work for you. Be more visible to your employees than a rah-rah email every 6 months. Set realistic expectations to Wall Street vs. targets the company will never meet.

I worked at Compuware full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Highly dedicated and skilled employees with an honest desire to do the best job possible. Good office facilities including cafeteria, daycare and gym. Competitive compensation.

    Cons

Management keeps its head in the sand with a "bring me no bad news" attitude. Sales forecasting is a joke. The quarterly forecast is based on what management wants to hear rather than reality with less than 10% of forecasted deals at the start of the quarter actually close. Turnover in the sales force is one of the highest in the industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time managing the business and less time on cultivating your image.

I have been working at Compuware full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Varied work, decent pay, good vacation policy, software products sold globally.

    Cons

Declining company with very frequent layoffs. The job is in downtown Detroit, a recovering dump, and the commute from anywhere decent is long. No chance of becoming an expert in anything because of frequent management changes of direction. The company future is in spun off businesses, no longer in Detroit. No training other than what you teach yourself.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Explain your strategy, products, and future plans to employees before many more of them quit.

I worked at Compuware full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a good place to work with smart people, interesting work, and an opportunity to have an impact as an individual contributor or part of a team. Company has been improving strategic focus over the last couple of years.

    Good work life balance
    Good amenities at corporate HQ
Ease of mobility if you put in the effort

    Cons

Office culture is not centrally managed. Pockets of progressive culture exist, but there is a lot of resistance to changing the status quo.

    Limited compensation increases
    Risk during downsizing initiatives
    Heavy on upper middle management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put additional resources into training, employee development and talent management
    Flatten out organizational hierarchies

Once a good (even great) company -- no longer. Not under the current management.

I worked at Compuware full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Outstanding facility -- one of the best in the country. Truly outstanding.

    Cons

Little upward movement/mobility. Lack of career direction. Poor (and seemingly getting worse) financial outlook. Year after year, conference calls promised (after bad earnings) that a few key deals at the last minute just didn't come through along with management's promises to shake up sales. Horrible strategy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Existing leadership has "managed the decay" of what was once a great company. Needs to clean house for much of upper management.

I worked at Compuware full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

They take care of their employees. Very good salary, second-to-none benefits. The building downtown is a great place to work (although the commute is awful).

    Cons

It was a great place until the company started coming unglued. Venture capitalists have been pounding the board to "unlock value", which now means sell divisions and dump people, left and right.

"Employee development" is laughable. There are no opportunities for serious training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't see any future at CPWR. Even if I could have my old job back, I don't think I'd take it. The company is just circling the drain.

The times recently when mgmt has "communicated" to employees, it hasn't said anything useful...check that...hasn't said anything at all.
