Con Ed Solutions is the best place to work....if you have no ambitions & are complacent being thrown under the bus daily

I have been working at Con Edison Solutions full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Schedule flexibility because no managers care if you are there or not; short commute; benefit from reputation of Con Edison; stability of the parent company.

    Cons

    1. Salaries do not commensurate with experience; 2. Managers have no concept of leading a team successfully; 3. Absolutely NO career development/advancement opportunities; 4. Very cut-throat, under the bus throwing environment with everyone out for themselves; 5. Customers are not treated properly because unskilled reps are taking the calls.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

First of all, pay people what they are worth. Do not place people in managerial positions based on the degree of "brown-nosing" they engage in. Make career development and advancement one of the benefits of working for CES. Encourage communication among teams AND interdepartmentally to make sure everyone is on the same page. Make sure an employee can do the job SUCCESSFULLY before you PROMOTE them. Treat the customers with respect by providing them with excellent customer service. They are the "bread and butter" of the company after all. Last but not least, HR be prepared to receive ANOTHER resignation within the next 30 days and be ready to conduct a very informative exit interview.

    Pros

Fun to provide solutions to Business Requirements.

    Cons

Director operates on Personal decisions, not what is best for the company. Once you are in his doghouse, you can never get out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too much is overlooked by top management which will impact the bottom line sooner or later.

I worked at Con Edison Solutions full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people were great to work with and the parent company was good about paying bonuses and supporting education.

    Cons

The biggest drawback is that the home office in Valhalla, in my opinion, felt that their name would carry the same weight in other areas of the country as it does in the NE region. The NE region, in my opinion, is a little out of touch with what is necessary to do business in regions where it is important to cultivate relationships more than responding to RFP/Q's. Also, some of the benefits did not translate to the regional offices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more money and time on the sales side, and facilitate a regional presence by allowing sales people to develop relationships and establish a reputation as experts in the field.

    Pros

Great people, great benefits, everyone worked well together to contribute to a job well done. Given good tools to do a really nice job for customer.

    Cons

Management slow making decisions. Very slow. Had a sales manager who hired one sales person in 5 years. With no sales people, no work, no work - no job. When they finally replaced him that position became a revolving door and no one was hired and if they did make a decision to hire someone they didn't stay.

I have been working at Con Edison Solutions full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Fair amount of work load, challenging enough, excellent opportunity for growth, high ethical responsibility community, good company communications, decent medical benefits, summer hours, decent bonus.

    Cons

Not ISO 9001, can be more standardized in forms and standards. Sales force for EPC / design build projects needs to be realigned with company vision and competition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Establish KPI of sales/ engineering / PM force for EPC/design build projects and compensate accordingly, not just the sales force.

I have been working at Con Edison Solutions

    Pros

    See Headline
The company appears to be a big corporation with a small business culture feel to it. Which is a good thing if you wish to move up the corporate ladder within the next couple of years.
Job security - they don't seem to lay off people.

    Cons

Politics like anywhere in Corporate America can hold you back. There seems to be a imbalance of have's and have nots' in terms of workload treatment, recognition, and appreciation. Also, there seems to be a lack of career training and development of its' employees. It's like a baptism by fire approach in terms of training.
Location sucks if you like to eat out for lunch.

    Cons

Look at the overall picture of a employee years & time of service to the company befor you make a
decision and determination is this person trustworthy, honest, & reliability
