I have been working at Con Edison of New York full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Job stability is number one here. Benefits are decent but have become very expensive over time (for both management and union). Career growth is possible with some motivation, some luck and a LOT of connections.

    Cons

Very very old fashioned, feels like a time warp to the 1960s. Culture and values completely out of touch with reality and their employees needs. Very inflexible should personal issues come up.Technologically behind on the times, making day to day work frustrating.Depending on the department, staff can be very unmotivated, making for a very unproductive work force.

    Pros

Raises every 3 months And easy to advance in the company

    Cons

If you're a contractor or consultant, leave within a year. Dont think twice of staying longer.

I worked at Con Edison of New York full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The pay is generous, as are the benefits. However, the benefits to being a management employee were trimmed considerably very recently.

    Cons

The culture of this company is archaic. Innovative thinking is frowned upon, as is change or advancement. Personal life and life/work balance is frowned upon. The company basically owns you. It's not about what you know, but who you know. Management is completely out of touch with the needs of its employees. Management also has an attitude that it can do no wrong, which is detrimental to the growth of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember that your employees are important. Listen to them. This is 2013, not 1980. Catch up with technology. This will all help your bottom line.
