I worked at Con-way Freight full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

It was a very laid back environment and there wasn't any mirco managing. They did keep in touch with what the employees needed as far as personally.

    Cons

The pay was not competitive at all. and benefits in comparison to other major companies I've worked for was the worst I have ever seen. There wasn't a training class to new employees. We did side by sides for 2 days and then were on our own. Even with experience you need to know more about what your expected to do as an employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a competitive pay rate and it shouldn't take a year for you to get dental and vision benefits. That's ridiculous. Have a training class for new employees.

    I worked at Con-way Freight

    Pros

Pay & Benefits are outstanding. The work hours vary, sometimes a lot, when a person first hires on but the paychecks on Friday makes up for that!

    Cons

There seems to be very little regard for family issues. The equipment is crap, until you've been there for a while. The safety concerns seem to be all talk.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would really benefit you to spend more time at work. Go on ride alongs, see if you can appreciate what the drivers do every day. Yeah, the drivers are the ones who pay your salaries.

I have been working at Con-way Freight full-time

    Pros

    Pay is good
    Job security is pretty good
    Military friendly
Great benefits including health, dental, vision, and a 401k.
Focus on safety in the work place.

    Cons

    Long hours

    Poor shifts

This company has little to no reward for the hard work you put in. And by reward, I mean the attitude towards employees. Management is not encouraging…they do not provide a team atmosphere like they make you think. Instead they create a consequence environment where it's about how bad you did, not how good you did some things and could improve on others.

Ability to advance is limited for drivers and management. If you're management, you must be willing to relocate.

I was also lied to when I was hired about the shifts I'd work and the pay raises I'd receive

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a thorough review of your regional management. See if they're actually putting in their part….and producing this "change" in culture that Con-Way preaches. Provide encouragement to employees, not consequence.

I have been working at Con-way Freight

    Pros

Great location, strong team, young blood striving to succeed

    Cons

Moved across the country for this contract without a stipend, and on my third day on the job my boss held a meeting detailing how the project I was brought on for didn't really serve a purpose for the UX team. Constantly shifting responsibilities and unclear goals.

  10. Good company to work for with work life balance.

    Pros

Great benefits, good co-workers and a good atmosphere

    Cons

Not a lot of room for advancement in my specific area. Low pay in this part of the USA.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on talent development and they can stay with the company and move up

    I worked at Con-way Freight

    Pros

Good wages, good benefits, strong company - doesn't lose money.

    Cons

High pressure/stress for management employees - sometimes the "what have you done for me lately" attitude by upper management regardless of you work record and continued dependability and efficiency - it's all about the numbers whether you can control it or not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Con-way has a good model but understand that there will always be ups and downs, trending, etc. that is often dependent upon the time of year and customer work cycles. Look past results of more than just a week or month but more towards a quarterly view. Con-way is a good company but tends to cannibalize their salaried people based on short-term views of results.
