Adjunct

Adjunct Faculty (Former Employee)
Saint Paul, MN

I worked at Concordia University (Minnesota) part-time for more than 3 years

ProsFaculty and staff committed to proving quality education

ConsAdjunct pay is considerably lower than that which a graduate student would receive for teaching the same class.

Advice to Senior ManagementAs long as you pay adjunct a low wage, you devalue education.

I have been working at Concordia University (Minnesota)

ProsCaring people
Good programs that people believe in
Hardworking staff/faculty
Good programs offered
Christian environment can be supportive (but see cons)

ConsAdministration (VP level) is out of touch
High turnover for female faculty/staff/administrators
Nepotism/too much promotion from within
Low level faculty/staff not allowed to communicate freely
Changes shrouded in secrecy
Christian environment can be judgmental

Advice to Senior ManagementTake some of the management classes that are offered at the University.
Communicate change directly rather than through the grapevine/rumor mill
Trust front-line faculty and staff.

Working at Concordia is very stable yet competitive!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Montreal, QC (Canada)

I have been working at Concordia University (Minnesota)

ProsGreat environment which promotes balance between work and family life.
Job security and excellent benefit packages.
Good pension plan.

ConsDue to a huge number of employees, Internal competition for advancement is very much present.
If a new idea is presented to management, it may take longer than expected to be approved due to the many levels of management (more chiefs than indians).

Advice to Senior ManagementEmployees should have the possibility to contact senior management with issues that cannot be resolved with their immediate supervisor(s).
