    Being a consultant with Concordia

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsA value, christian ethics related university; friendly staff, some highly qualified faculty and staff; great potential for becoming a top christian university.

ConsCompensation and benefits need to be reviewed soon to bring up to national standards for university pay and benefits.

I worked as the weight room and gym supervisor. I monitored the gym and made sure only Concordia students entered

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe work hours were very flexible and I was always able to get another shift or give my shift away when I could not work

ConsIt was difficult to deal with people who do not abide to the rules of the weight room

Copy Editor for student newspaper, The Sower

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsI never thought I would enjoy journalism before I worked for The Sower! While on staff for the past five semesters, I have improved my own writing style, and I have been encouraged to learn how to find and hold pleasant conversation with complete strangers. As Copy Editor, I have branched out and worked with other writers' articles.

ConsNot many hours are offered for journalists on the newspaper staff, only about 4-6 per week, but sometimes with school work that's about all I could manage anyway.

Advice to Senior ManagementWe need to advertise more for other students to be on staff. It's fun, and a great experience, and it builds confidence; we need to show the student body that being a part of the Sower is beneficial in so many ways!

Micro-cultures run the gamut from best to worst

    Education Marketing (Current Employee)
    Montreal, QC (Canada)

ProsMeaningful work, very good starting pay, strong benefits, job security.

The university employs over 7,500 staff and faculty members, and uses a very decentralized management structure for most operations. This can be excellent in terms of employee agency and autonomy, but it can also be the worst, depending on your direct manager.

ConsOften poor middle management, confused strategies, entrenched information silos, disengaged employees, lack of innovation, no real consequences for failure.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmbody the ethos of education and seek to develop as leaders; put what is taught in the classroom into practice in operational administrative situations.
