Pros
1) Interesting work
2) Stable
3) Good people around
Cons
Low cap of yearly salary increase for groups
Pros
Products are second to none - great product to sell and demonstrate and plenty of references although often times Travel and Expense are not at the top of companies' priority list. Nearly 2 out of 3 opportunities are closed and not won because there is a change in priorities or budget allocation. Also expect to encounter competition at very low prices reducing the solution to a commodity.
Cons
Company exists since the mid nineties and it still prides itself in behaving like a start-up.
And it shows:
* no vision or communication on vision
* very tough and difficult to do business with
* information is kept in three different places (portal, box and sfdc)
* ask a question and everyone will shy away because they are afraid to take responsibility
* will do everything possible to make sure you do not get paid the full commission that you are entitled to
* discount approvals take ages to go through the system - often times the customer deadline is not important - internal stuff is more important
* General Manager's mailbox full at the end of the Quarter - this is for real - no kidding
* implementation team are sitting behind a Chinese wall - customers have to follow their methodology and there is no way around that
* marketing exists but not clear what they do - very outdated material, customer logos are sometimes no longer in business
* the list goes on and on and on...
If you are a professional and you are used to working with accountable colleagues and a minimum of working processes and procedures that will make everyone's life easier then Concur is not the place to go work.
If you want to make your own life miserable and hate the day you signed up with this bunch - by all means: apply immediately - you'll enjoy the ride.
Advice to Senior Management
You can pride yourselves in having created a great product - fantastic - job well done!
Now hire someone from McKinsey or Bain or someone else to help you get the basics right and re-think the whole business and operations supporting processes from scratch. Please do this not only for sales but also for account management, support, consulting and marketing. Keep in mind that happy employees will make sure that customers are happy too.
Pros
Leader in the space. Innovative technology which is significantly better than competition. Good income potential for sales people.
Cons
Same job may pay one person 20%+ more than another. Disparate packages for same job. Company will often seem non responsive to issues raised regarding your employment. This may be about benefits, insurance, compensation, etc. HR management has room for improvement.
Advice to Senior Management
Avoid leading through fear and intimidation. Avoid making commitments you cannot, or will not, keep.
Pros
Time off, time flexibly, good benefits, nice people.
Cons
Salaries are all over the place - mostly seems to be on the low side.
Pros
some of the greatest, hard working people
decent benefits
Cons
If you aren't one of the suck-ups you won't get very far. Definitely have to know how to manuever around all of the office politics.
If you work anywhere but the HQ you probably won't see much of the Executive Leadership - they don't travel to colder climates.
Pros
1) Flexibility to take on new challenging assignments and freedom to self manage.
2) Fast growth both organically and through acquisitions which brings new and interesting work and projects.
3) Management seems to value employees and being transparent.
Cons
1) Pay and benefits seem not to align with goals. Often express that they want top talent, but when benefits cost went up HR claimed that it was market average, which doesn't make sense if you're trying to acquire top talent.
2) No real focus on career development
Advice to Senior Management
Put together programs to develop and retain top talent and communicate that to those individuals. They may be even identified and discussed as top talent, but they don't know.
Pros
Great offerings
Big exciting huge promises.
Lot of rotating managers to learn from.
Cons
Dangerous for anyone currently employed
to risk an ever changing management landscape.
United Healthcare - could be the WORST in WA
Based on other HR dept, caregivers hospitals doctors
Advice to Senior Management
Confusing with so many groups that communicate
very little to each other. It's a small company
and needs to get honest about not being honest.
Nothing worse than using progress as an excuse for
For bad ownership behavior. It starts from the top.
Pros
Competitive Salary
Great Benefits package
Lots of PTO
Surrounded by talent
Extremely flexible schedule with remote work encouraged
Managers really listen to their subordinates.
Cons
Communication slow at times but this is only because Concur is always looking to make the next big move in the market.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing what you're doing. Management is very transparent and you don't feel like they're sitting behind closed doors all day. Concur is regularly listed in the top 5 companies to work for each year for a reason. Keep it up!
Pros
Financially stable with cash in the bank
Leader in the market place
Good place for men to work
Good place for college grads to work out of collage
Cons
Nepotism, Very very dysfunctional company. Heavy middle management with limited experience. Does not know how or doesn't want to integrate new employees. Management has to be right. No regard for performance during re-orgs, They have no idea or even desire to integrate new employees. Last in first out even if you out perform and are number one in the US or the World. HR has been known to share confidential information.
Advice to Senior Management
Turn the company over to professionals to run. You're about to hit a really big wall in technology.
Eliminate nepotism or you will not ever be able to transform as you get bigger. Encourage long term employees to get some exposure to other software companies as the world has changed drastically since they joined.
Pros
Good working environment, decent compensation and stable employement.
Cons
No career growth. Inconsiderate and inexperienced management.
Advice to Senior Management
Consider training your technical managers in gaining skills in people management and growing the employee's careers.
